Melissa Upton and Justin Caswell have been best friends since they were kids. Now, they’re all grown up and things have changed, for Melissa at least. She’s content running the family bridal shop, Candlelight and Lace. Excited about her cousin’s upcoming wedding. She doesn’t even mind attending weddings with Justin, until he dubs them wedding buddies. And now that he’s back in Christmas Town, Melissa realizes she wants more. He’s launched his own successful career, is happy with his single status. Until he feels the distance Melissa has put between them. What’s up with his best friend? The more time they spent together, involved in Christmas Town holiday preparations, the more he realizes she’s hoping for more in their relationship. Can Justin see that being in love, and remaining best friends, is the best of both worlds?

Are Melissa and Justin more than friends?

Our Christmas Promise by Tara Randel was a bit different from the others. Melissa is a cousin of Jaycee and Lisa and works at her families’ bridal shop. Justin is Melissa’s best friend and an architect. The two of them have to deal with the upcoming wedding and their family issues.

Melissa Upton

The main female character is Melissa Upton, and her family is nuts. Okay except her grandma. Melissa and her grandma each own half of the bridal shop. While her dad owns the building, Melissa is doing well in her shop, but she is being overwhelmed by the surprises that her dad keeps springing on her. Melissa is also trying to sort out her feelings. She is the cousin to Lisa and Jaycee. Melissa is also a bridesmaid and the one supplying the dresses for the bride and bridesmaids.

What I liked:

I like that Melissa loves her job and that she enjoys working with brides. Melissa loves the satisfaction of getting an order right and seeing the bride smile. She is a great friend to the people of Christmas Town. I also like the way Melissa is with Justin. The last thing that I love about her is that she is funny when she finally lets her anger out.

What I didn’t like:

I don’t like that Melissa didn’t tell her grandma about what her dad was planning. It would have been nice to see her grandma reaction. It just seemed like a missed opportunity to me. The last thing I disliked is that she was okay with what happened with the shop and building. I mean really? She just rolled over and gave up?

Justin Caswell

The main male character is Justin Caswell, and he is Melissa’s love interest and an architect. Justin is an excellent friend to Melissa and doesn’t see Melissa as more than a friend. He is a bit of a complicated person due to his relationship with his father and trying to meet his dad’s expectations. Justin is a pretty interesting character, but he doesn’t think much about his relationship with Melissa.

What I liked:

I like that Justin is a great friend to Melissa and their friends from high school. He kept in touch with everyone while he was away. I also like that he is an accomplished architect as well.

What I didn’t like:

The only thing that I dislike about Justin is that he hasn’t learned to discuss anything including his feelings with his father.

Four Star

I am giving Our Christmas Promise by Tara Randel a four-star rating. It was good but some things (like the ending) I didn’t like about it. It was a cute read though, and I think that Ms. Randel did an admirable job on it. Ms. Randel was able to weave a good story for these two best friends.

Anyways until the next time enjoy this review brought to you by,
