Join Penn and Stella on their latest adventure!

There's a legend in the Sea Islands that before a hurricane hits the Gray Lady can be seen walking down the beach warning of doom. Penn doesn’t believe in such silly stories, but she does believe weather forecasters. A powerful hurricane is heading their way. Everyone on the island of Camellia Beach is busy boarding up windows and securing valuables to upper levels of buildings. Joe Davies, a local treasure hunter with an unquenchable sweet tooth, claims to have seen the Gray Lady walking toward him just that morning and is terrified for his life.

After the storm passes everyone returns to survey the damage. As Penn walks her little dog Stella on the beach, she finds Joe Davies’ body washed up onshore. Not only that, it looks as if an exploding transformer caused Joe’s seaside shack to burn to the ground. Did the Gray Lady claim another victim? Many on the island believe that is exactly what happened.

Penn is sure there’s another explanation. She follows the clues and hints of lost gold to discover that the truth behind the treasure hunter’s death is as much of a maze as the boating channels winding their way through the local marshes.

Bonbon with the Wind by Dorothy St. James is an exciting read about trying to find the motive and person who killed a guy before the storm?

Will Penn and the gang figure out who killed Joe Davies?

Penn

Charity Penn, or known by her friends as Penn, is our main character and sleuth. She is an heiress in her own right from her dad but is loving working at the chocolate store owned by her mom’s family. Penn got the shop when her maternal grandmother left it to her. After that, well, she has become known around the small island as the person to go to to find things. Like clearing your name of being a suspect or anything like that. She is pretty good at solving the crimes, especially in this one.

What I like about her is that she takes in stride what her friends say, especially about trusting them more. Penn has trust issues thanks to both sides of her family, treating her like she has leprosy. She is learning that some people don’t care about who her family is. The one thing that I dislike is that Penn had a lot to happen to make her realize that, and I hope that she is better now.

Bonbon with the Wind CRThe Mystery

Two victims, but were they killed by the same person or different people? What were they after? These were the questions that I was asking myself as I was reading this mystery novel. Well, at first, it was only one murder victim until there were two. Ms. St James did a fabulous job on this. I figured out who did it but not the motive. Until a piece of crucial evidence that popped up. Just be careful reading it, and you might be able to pick it up as well.

Four Stars

Bonbon with the Wind by Dorothy St. James is my first novel from her and for this series. I have to say that I loved everything about it. Penn, Stella, Harley, Bertie, and Althea are all wonderful characters, and I can’t wait to read more in this series.

I am giving it four stars and recommending it to anyone that loves a good cozy mystery.

Also, don’t forget to check out the recipes in the back. The recipes are Penn’s Pumpkin Spice Bonbons, Althea’s Cacao Nib Encrusted Salmon with White Chocolate Sauce, and Penn’s Surprisingly Simple Chocolate Chip Brownies.
