Ava and Carol, teen detectives, can find a mystery just about anywhere, so why should Cairo, Egypt be any different?
While Ava’s mom, a world-renowned journalist is investigating the historical records behind King Tut’s discovery, Ava and Carol accidentally, on purpose, become entangled in their own mystery.
They witness an older Egyptian man attempting to convince a police investigator that he is being watched, but his words fall on deaf ears. Ava, who can’t stand to see sad old men, offers their assistance. Omar, the old man, warns them that it’s too dangerous, but that only makes the girls more anxious to help.
Once on the case, the girls discover why Omar is being watched. He has an ancient map with clues that lead to a stolen treasure that had been passed down from King Tut’s grandfather to the boy king himself. As the girls unravel the clues, the thieves become more desperate. If Ava and Carol find the treasure first, they’ll turn it over to the Egyptian government.
In a twisty game of cat and mouse, the girls must use all their investigative skills and creativity to find the treasure before the bad guys, and rescue Omar, who had suddenly disappeared.
Follow teen sleuths Ava and Carol through the streets and pyramids of Egypt as they attempt to solve a mystery over a century old. The Mystery of the Egyptian Pyramid is a fun, mystery adventure and is chock full of historical facts about the life and death of King Tut.
The Mystery of the Egyptian Pyramid by Thomas Lockhaven has Ava and Carol in Cairo, Egypt, with Ava’s mom as she is on assignment. Let’s see what these two teenage girls can get caught up in now.
Can Ava and Carol retrieve this stolen artifact and return it to the Egyptian people?
Ava and Carol get wrapped in their mystery while Ava’s mom works on the mystery around King Tut’s tomb. Surprisingly both cases revolve around the boy king, but that’s the only coincidence. My only concern is that Ava and Carol are not hurt in this case. Well, I guess that answer is to read the book to find out. Ava is still throwing jokes and running headfirst into an issue without thinking about the consequences. Carol is still basically the brains of the operation even though she has gotten her phone stolen again! That girl needs to keep her phone around her neck or something. Despite that, I love the banter between Ava and Carol, especially when you can see that it’s all lighthearted between two friends instead of mean banter. These two are my favorite middle grade sleuths so far that I have encountered. I love coming back to their mysteries.
The Mystery
Ava gets them into another case when they overhear a conversation between an older man and a police detective. I like how they solve cases and use the knowledge they have gathered from past investigations to help with this one, including getting people to talk to them and having a workaround for getting help. Their case revolves around a stolen sword from King Tut that hasn’t been seen in a while, and I love how they ended up solving it.
Five Stars
I am giving five stars to The Mystery of the Egyptian Pyramid by Thomas Lockhaven and recommending it to anyone who loves a good mystery, no matter its genre. Mr. Lockhaven is a great author, and I felt like I was actually in Cairo, Egypt, with the girls solving this case. Ava and Carol have traveled more than I ever had. These two girls are fantastic detectives, and I can’t wait to see what else Mr. Lockhaven throws in front of them to solve.
Plus, who says to be a mystery or even a detective that you have to focus solely on dead bodies, which is another reason why I like these books. I can’t recommend this series enough.
