Character Interview with Oliva Redmond

How did you and your author meet?

Kate Parker, author of the Deadly Series, heard a strange story from a friend who knew a widow who learned things in a surprising way. Kate’s imagination took over, and I, Olivia Denis, now Olivia Redmond, was born.

Why did Kate decide to feature you in a whole series of books?

She learned I was determined and feisty and flexible enough to carry out assignments from the man she sent me to work for. My background in amateur dramatics didn’t hurt.

Do you have any friends or family helping you out?

Bosses, coworkers, friends, and relatives, they all get to help me out on occasion. When I rescued two young boys in Berlin in Deadly Travel and then had to protect them when their mother was murdered, I left them with my cousin and her family on the farm. It turned out to be a brilliant move as the boys are still there two years later and settled in as members of the family.

Do you have a regular job and investigate on the side or are you a full-time detective?

I’m a newspaper reporter, better at getting the scoop than in writing the story, and often cover society events. I am also loaned out on a case by case basis by my newspaper publisher to Britain’s counterespionage chief. We’re at war and everyone needs to do their bit for the war effort, or so they tell me.

Have you solved other cases or is this your first one?

In the past three years and ten books in the Deadly Series, I’ve solved many cases. In Deadly Manor, Kate’s tenth book in the series, I have three murders and an espionage case to solve.

Do you have a gift or a special talent?

Is being nosy a gift or a special talent?

Who is the most important individual in your life?

My husband Adam. If he hadn’t been so badly injured in France during the German invasion, we would never have been invited to spend time at my friend’s country manor so he could recuperate. And then we would never have been mixed up in the dangers in Deadly Manor. But it was all worth while if Adam could recover even some of his strength.

What is your ideal vacation?

There aren’t many opportunities for vacations in the middle of a war. However, we get to take life easy at a country manor in Deadly Manor. It would have been ideal if not for the murders.

If you could change anything about your life what would it be?

I’d make the war end today and Hitler would vanish from the face of the earth.

About the Author

Kate Parker

With her love of travel, Kate Parker sets her novels overseas. Once home from her research trips and armed with hot tea and chocolate, she can be found clicking away on her keyboard, hiking the hills of central North Carolina, and spoiling her 90 pound muse puppy. She’d tell you what she did before she retired, but then she’d have to use certain skills to eliminate you. She pens stories to entertain readers who enjoy action and murder in tales about plucky heroines, quirky characters, and difficult situations in a bygone era. Her stories are sweet, as in no graphic sex, violence, or language. Her heroines remain ladylike while chasing murderers and escaping danger. Well, as ladylike as scratching, punching, and kicking can be.
