Set in a charming Irish village, the latest installment in bestselling author Carlene O’Connor (“queen of the cozy police procedural”—Publishers Weekly) cozy Irish Village Mystery series.

Siobhán’s brother Eoin’s new family restaurant, The O’Sullivan Six, is so close to opening—but waiting on the necessary permits plus the heat of July in the village of Kilbane in County Cork is driving everyone a bit mad. Macdara Flannery comes to the rescue with a plan—take a holiday by the sea and stuff themselves with fish and chips to support the struggling business of the aptly named Mrs. Chipper.

But when they arrive, a crowd is gathered in front of the closed shop: a local fisherman with a fresh cod delivery, a food critic, Mrs. Chipper’s ex-husband who’s opening a competing fish and chips shop directly across the street, and a repairman to fix the vent for the deep fryer. With Siobhán and Macdara as witnesses, a local handyman gets the locked door open, only to find the proprietor lying dead and covered in flour at the base of a ladder, its rungs coated in slippery fat. Clearly this was not an accidental tragedy . . .

Even as the local garda take over the murder investigation, Siobhán and Macdara can’t help themselves from placing their long-delayed honeymoon on hold—at least until they can help apprehend an elusive killer.

Murder at an Irish Chipper by Carlene O’Connor finds the O’Sullivan-Flannerys going on a vacation to the seashore.

Will Siobhán and Macdara enjoy a honeymoon or end up solving a murder?

Siobhán and Macdara decide to head to the seashore to beat the heat. They are calling it a honeymoon, but the O’Sullivan six are going with them. One thing that I love about their family is they like to spend time together. The kids aren’t all kids anymore, and they are each unique. I think Ms. O’Conner does a fantastic job of making each of Siobhán’s siblings interesting.

Siobhán

In the last book I read, Siobhán was running the bistro; now, she is a Garda and married to Macdara. At first, I worried I would be too far behind, but Ms. O’Connor truly has written a stand-alone mystery. The transformation that Siobhán has made is impressive. She is fantastic and genuinely has a gift for finding the culprit. Yet, she is down to earth and truly cares for her siblings.Murder at an Irish Chipper CR

The Mystery

Oh my gosh, the mystery is crazy. I followed the clues and figured out who one of the culprits were, but the other caught me off guard. Murder in a locked chipper, the ladder, beef fat, flour, vinegar, and all the suspects were spectacular. The fact that Siobhán was able to anticipate the murderer’s next action is stellar.

Five Stars

I loved this mystery; it is marvelous, from the setting to the characters, motives, and basically, the whole package. I laughed at some of the parts and was like, why is he acting like that now? My rating for Murder at an Irish Chipper by Carlene O’Connor is five stars. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a great mystery with Irish flair.
