Vanessa is home in Rambler, Nevada for the biggest holiday of the magical calendar, Halloween and some time off from her mage training. When the traditional Luck Pumpkin disappears prior to the party, Vanessa makes a bet that she can find it. What’s at stake? Only midnight’s kiss with a handsome man! She will have to out navigate spells gone awry, slippery desserts and an exploding pumpkin if she wants to win the bet.
Will Vanessa find the Luck Pumpkin and secure Raymond’s kiss?
The Case of the Exploding Luck Pumpkin by Nikki Haverstock is a funny Halloween short read. Sometimes, a quick little read that makes you laugh is just right.
I haven’t read any of Nikki Haverstock’s books before, but I got this book from Instafreebie, which is now Prolific Works. This book is still available here. I enjoyed this short story and plan to check out more of the Casino Witch Mystery Series.
Vanessa is the main character, and I think she is in her early twenties. She is a mage/witch studying her magic with her Mom; she is looking for something more. Perhaps, love is possible as Vanessa has a crush on her brother’s best friend. But she is also looking for a calling, something to give meaning to her life. I was immediately drawn to Vanessa. She is the baby in her family, and everyone constantly pushes her away, telling her to do something other than what she wants to do, which is to help find the Luck Pumpkin. They are also a touch overprotective. Ok, her brother Vin is very protective. He doesn’t think she should kiss until she is 50.
Vanessa figures out the mystery of the Luke Pumpkin, but she needs and accepts assistance from others to help save Halloween.
5 Stars for The Case of the Exploding Luck Pumpkin by Nikki Haverstock
My rating for The Case of the Exploding Luck Pumpkin by Nikki Haverstock is five stars. This funny little mystery has no dead bodies, which is refreshing. I recommend this short story; it was initially part of Witch or Treat: A Collection of Paranormal Cozy Shorts.
