Ella's Super Awesome Guide to Paranormal Cheese:
1. You eat it, but there are weird side effects.
2. The ingredients can be really gross.
3. You don't use it to squash people.

When the ex-president of the Paranormal Cheese Council is found dead under the world's largest wedge of cheese, Ella is on the case! Unable to admit who she really is, she goes undercover. But can she, her klutzy sidekick, and the world's most arrogant familiar escape the Booby-Trapped Queso of Doom, or stop eating the magically addictive beer-cheese fondue without giving things away to the anonymous villain?
Watch Ella dress as a Bavarian Beer Wench, watch her familiar act all catlike, and watch her slow-burn relationship with the sexy and muscular Vin turn into cheesy goodness before she makes a public declaration that nips their developing relationship in the bloomy rind.

If you like the idea of Sober-Up Salami, over-the-top villains, dragon spit, and siren milk, then you want a heapin' helping of Which Mage Moved the Cheese?, Book 2 of the Casino Witch Mysteries.

Which Mage Moved the Cheese by Nikki Haverstock is funny and sad and kept me guessing throughout.

Will Ella find the killer and love before either is too late?

The Paranormal Cheese Counsel

This installment occurs at the Paranormal Cheese Counsel Convention held at the Golden Pyramid Casino in Rambler, Nevada. Ella is there helping out with the preparations. Once again, she is being called upon to assist with a murder. This time the previous counsel’s president is murdered before the convention begins. However, since this murder will be more public and political, the local magical marshall is being called in. So, Ella has to stay hidden and still investigate the death.

There are some interesting characters at the convention with some yummy and not-so-yummy concoctions that all revolve around cheese.

  • Granner with her World’s Largest Cheese Wedge and beer cheese.
  • Mark brought his Sober-Up Salami.
  • Queso by the gallon that stays warm all the time.
  • A slice of swiss chees the size of a king-size bed.
  • Chocolate milkshakes made from rat’s milk.

Vanessa Russo

Which Mage Moved the Cheese CRVanessa plays a more significant part in this installment. She and Ella are investigating Michael’s death on the down low. They report to Vin but try to stay out of the marshall’s way. Vanessa shows the use of some excellent magic and some that she should practice more. I think the rat spell is by far her most ingenious and well-done.

I feel sorry for Vanessa. She is the baby of the family, and everyone is always telling her what to do. Vanessa wants to live life and have fun, but her brother and mother have other plans for her. She is the fun cousin no one wants to hang around with because her mom is always there. I hope that one day, Vanessa gets her magic where she wants it and can relax and have some fun.

Five Stars

I found that I liked this installment better. Ella is growing into her own, Patagonia is getting bigger, Vanessa is getting out from some family ties, and things are moving along. I laughed at many of the things happening in this story. Ella and Vanessa are like Lucy and Ethel, although I am not sure which would be which as it bounces back and forth.

My rating for Which Mage Moved the Cheese by Nikki Haverstock is four stars. I recommend this book to all you paranormal cozy mystery readers out there.

About Nikki Haverstock

Nikki Haverstock

Nikki Haverstock is a writer who lives on a cattle ranch high in the Rocky Mountains. She has studied comedy writing at Second City and has published 9 cozy mysteries that are heavy on the humor.

Nikki has more college degrees than she has sense and hopefully one day she will put one to work.
