He made her promise to wait for him…
Years after convincing a mysterious young woman not to jump from a bridge, Caidon Survaine receives shadowy orders to eliminate her. Suspicious of the command, he returns home to find a nefarious group has infiltrated the depths of the Sziverian government. No one can be trusted. Guardians meant to protect have been coerced or corrupted. And the young woman he saved is in more danger than she could realize. Caidon has plans of his own where she’s concerned.
Doing the right thing always seems to leave Ramsey Hunter in peril. Yet, she can’t stop herself from protecting those in need. When she discovers her rare genetic talent can save passengers on a ship destined for trafficking, she ignores her brothers pleas to remain safe at home and embarks on a world adventure with Caidon at her side. She has only one condition for the assassin— he won’t deny the passion flaring between them.
Together they navigate new cultures, and their own awakening desires, in a race against the ice flows. If they can’t reach the ports of the violent nation of Mark Inland before the last of the thaw, hundreds of lives will be at stake.
Survaine by Sarah Westill is a fantastic next step in the Gen-Heirs Saga. Ramsey and Caidon are magnificent together.
Will Ramsey and Caidon find the answers that their nation needs and still be able to love each other?
Ramsey Hunter
Our heroine is Ramsey. She has a past and is known for sticking up for what is right and speaking justice. Justice sometimes comes at a personal price, which Ramsey found when the rest of Sziveria shunned her. That didn’t stop her from assisting her enforceman brother with his tasks or helping anyone when she could.
I have always liked Ramsey, but her story shows her vulnerability, strengths, and growth as an agent and wife, which makes me like her more. Ramsey blooms throughout this installment, and we see even more of her inner turmoil and how her outer appearance isn’t always in line with what is happening in her head. Ramsey’s relationship with Caidon is hot and flames up at some of the most inopportune moments.
Ramsey’s newfound gift is amazing. I think it may be one of my favorite of the inherited talents. Not that the other skills are lacking; this one just appeals to me.
Caidon Survaine
Caidon, like his father before him, is an assassin, and their lives are led mainly in the shadows because they don’t want their loved ones to be in danger. The thing about Caidon is he is unique. He knows what his moral compass can live with and isn’t willing to do anything against it, which he has written into his government contract. Assassin or not, he is a man of honor, and his word means a lot to him.
I like Caidon, which I wasn’t entirely sure I would do. You know, the whole killer thing and all. But he proved to be noble and smart enough to look to the future, at least where his career is concerned. I think his relationship with Ramsey caught him by surprise, and her responses to him also weren’t in his life plan. Caidon handles Ramsey’s insecurities well. However, he is still trying to learn to trust her love for him.
These two make a dynamic team, and I hope we get to check in with them in the future.
The Story
In this installment, we learn that the V Alliance is kidnapping people or buying them to sell them to others—basically enslaved people. Ramsey and Caidon are tasked with finding the ship they think is carrying the people before they are sent to their new masters. We get to catch up with Jonathan and Sylphine and see the birth of Sean and Katria’s child. One thing I enjoy about Ms. Westill’s series is that the inhabitants of her world continue to pop up in the newest installments.
More details about the V Alliance are found, and we glimpse a possible love match for Ryan Voklane. Then there is the sneak preview of the seventh book in the series, Wolvenguard. I look forward to reading that one too.
Ms. Westill even has some maps of the post-cataclysmic world on her website.
Five Stars
I can’t sing my praises loud enough for the Gen-Heir series. It is exceptionally fabulous in all ways. Ms. Westill is an excellent writer who brings the whole post-cataclysmic world to life. My rating for Survaine by Sarah Westill is five stars. If you like paranormal romance, then this is perfect for you.
