They're back! Julian and Rome are taking their show on the road. This time to lovely, old England in search of Camelot. While there, everyone's favorite Knight and Master Dragon will be trying to solve the mystery of the Talismans, the mystery of their shadowy stalker, and the mystery of sibling rivalry. Prepare to meet some new faces and, of course, some new Darkbrands as the two further their adventures across the pond.

Riders of Fire and Ice by Brett Salter have the brother-in-arms, Julian and Rome, flying to England to learn more about the past.

Will Julian and Rome find allies in England to help them win the war they are in?

Julian and Rome

Julian is the knight of Rome’s dragon form, and they are connected through an ancient tradition when the knight and dragon decide to become one. These two have been through a lot in the first book, and even more so now while they are in England. Well, once they get there, they have gotten better at fighting, thanks to their mentor Mr. Jones. My only question about this is, what do Rome’s parents think of him being in England? I like these two as a pairing since they are complete opposites of each other and appear to be doing great. Of these two characters, Rome is probably my favorite as he isn’t as weird as Julian when he starts to speak all knightly or anything like that.

Riders of Fire and Ice CRCamela and Krysta

Camela is Julian’s little sister who is going to school in England as per the custom of their family’s lineage. She is a bratty younger sister who likes to see her brother fail and doesn’t want to help him. Camela also acts like she’s better than Julian, which ticked me off with her as a character. Out of the two Rider siblings, I must say that I like Julian better.

Krysta is a dragon and is Camela’s dragon at that. She is much different than Rome with her dragonness. I can’t say much about it, but I considerably like Krysta. I can see the two dragons being a formidable pair if they ever have to fight together or are even together in another sense.

Four Stars

I am giving Riders of Fire and Ice by Brett Slater four stars and a recommendation. It is a good book. Yet certain things about some of the characters and some parts seem rushed, making my rating four stars. Mr. Slater does have a great series on his hands, and I can’t wait to read more one day.

About Brett Salter

Brett Salter

My background in writing stems mostly from the inspiration I found as a kid when I read Fantasy and Sci-Fi books. These include The Chronicles of Narnia, The Xanth Novels, The Time Quintet, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and everything from Shakespeare to Dr. Seuss. In my formative years, I joined several punk rock bands and wrote songs, poetry, and short stories aplenty. As an adult (?) I took on a dare and wrote the first book in my Talisman Series. I loved the feeling it gave me and the idea of inspiring others so much that I kept writing until I had an entire series.

And now, a massive head’s up! I am NOT a professional writer. That’s why I write MG/YA instead of High, Epic Fantasy. I do all my own writing, my own editing, my own promoting, and my own stunts with my extremely limited free time. If you are okay overlooking a few typos and coma splices, then we can be friends. If you are expecting the next George R.R. Martin, then my apologies. I write for kids like my own and tell stories meant to entertain. Check out my books if you like action, dragons, and zany characters.

Stay cool and keep a wary eye out for portals!
