"The Search For Synergy" is the first book in The Talisman Series by author Brett Salter. It follows the exploits of two middle-school boys, Rome Lockheed and Julian Rider, as they transition from normal kids into epic warriors fighting for the existence of the Earth realm. Rome is secretly a fire dragon from the Den of Volcana placed under a spell which hides his true form. Julian is an oddball, up-and-coming knight with a case of the "try-hards". Together, they perform an ancient pact which bonds their lives and souls forever. Under the tutelage and guidance of an eccentric, local librarian, Mr. Jones, the two learn of an impending invasion from an archaic evil desperate to invade from the other side of The Void.

The Search For Synergy by Brett Salter is about two unlikely boys forming a friendship and learning how to defend the world together.

Does Rome believe what Julian and Mr. Jones tell him about being a dragon?

Rome Lockheed and Julian Rider

Rome Lockhead has been feeling cooped up and he needs to expel this energy that surrounds him. He wants to be set free. Well, Rome got more than what he bargained for when Rome learns what Julian and Mr. Jones have to tell him. Rome has to learn how to control his newfound abilities and past before evil is brought forth again. Mr. Lockheed is one of those characters thrust into this battle of good vs evil while having to deal with controlling his dragon side and keeping it from popping out. If I were to see Rome on the streets I wouldn’t have thought that he was a dragon just a kid that might need some guidance.

The Search for Synergy CRJulian Rider is a knight and has known that he was his entire life. Jules has to convince Rome to go into battle with him and complete this synergy thing that only a knight and dragon can accomplish to defeat evil. One thing that neither boy considered was keeping this a secret from Julian’s dad. Once they figure out how to do the synergy. These two have a long way to go to be battle-ready for the eventual fight against evil. They especially need to learn to work as a team.

These two boys seem like they would never be friends at first glance and that they would have nothing in common. Well, still correct on that but now they have a common goal of protecting Earth from evil. Will the two boys be able to do everything that they set out to do at the beginning of the book? Go pick up your copy to find out.

Five Stars

My rating for The Search For Synergy by Brett Slater is five stars and I’m recommending it to anyone that has middle graders that love dragons or anything in the fantasy realm. Mr. Slater did a good job of writing this book. I couldn’t put it down once I started reading. It is that good. Mr. Slater has a way of transporting you to a small town in Georgia to be with Rome and Julian to cheer them on for everything they start together.

About Brett Salter

Brett Salter

My background in writing stems mostly from the inspiration I found as a kid when I read Fantasy and Sci-Fi books. These include The Chronicles of Narnia, The Xanth Novels, The Time Quintet, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and everything from Shakespeare to Dr. Seuss. In my formative years, I joined several punk rock bands and wrote songs, poetry, and short stories aplenty. As an adult (?) I took on a dare and wrote the first book in my Talisman Series. I loved the feeling it gave me and the idea of inspiring others so much that I kept writing until I had an entire series.

And now, a massive head’s up! I am NOT a professional writer. That’s why I write MG/YA instead of High, Epic Fantasy. I do all my own writing, my own editing, my own promoting, and my own stunts with my extremely limited free time. If you are okay overlooking a few typos and coma splices, then we can be friends. If you are expecting the next George R.R. Martin, then my apologies. I write for kids like my own and tell stories meant to entertain. Check out my books if you like action, dragons, and zany characters.

Stay cool and keep a wary eye out for portals!
