Good Witch: Tale of Two Hearts a Hallmark Fall Harvest Movie 2018

Hallmark Fall Harvest

With my love of autumn, romance and happy endings I will be watching all of the Hallmark Channel’s Fall Harvest Movies this year, then sharing my thoughts with all of you.

My disclaimer:           I like the fun, romantic movies that play on Hallmark. Therefore my reviews will probably have a very positive look at each of the films.

If you would like to see a list of the Movies and their first air dates, I have listed them below.

Festival. Everyone in town prepares for the festival’s competition with rival town Blairsville, especially Grace and Nick, who realize this is their last Halloween in Middleton. New mayor Abigail tries to outdo former mayor Martha, creating rivalries within the town as well. When a 100-carat ruby known as The Heart of Middleton is stolen from the museum where the festival’s gala is to be held, the town’s Halloween romance suffers, and Cassie suspects a Grey House guest is the culprit. She also believes it will all magically work out during the Halloween gala – one filled with romance and surprises that not even Cassie’s magic intuition can predict.

My thoughts:

I have always loved the Good Witch movies and the series. Catherine Bell is so fabulous as Cassie Nightingale. There were some significant changes when it went from the movies to the series. Like Cassie’s husband, Jake Russell (Chris Potter) died, and his kids are pretty much gone from Middleton. Now we have Sam Radford (James Denton) and his son Nick (Rhys Matthew Bond). Cassie and Grace live at Grey House now with Abigail and George O’Hanrahan who was Jake’s father-in-law (I think). Martha is still around, of course.

This movie is like an episode in the middle of the series. You know, it’s supposed to tie one season to the next.

The Heart of Middleton

I did love the story about the Heart of Middleton. Cassie read the love letters of her ancestor the owner of the Heart to Sam. Sam helps to figure out part of the mystery and then at the end Cassie is told the last bit of the story. Nightingale women have had hard-won love lives. Perhaps since Cassie came to Middleton after traveling the world that is why she can be there now and find two loves.

Then the person that steals the heart has to learn to take what isn’t yours won’t bring the results you expect. Cassie is wise to whom the culprit is but the Police Chief doesn’t have a clue. Don’t worry everything works out in the end for this person.

I enjoyed the competition between Blairsville and Middleton. It was funny that they have been celebrating this rivalry for 200 years. There was a great Fall Festival with competition between the two towns. Abigail with her selfish ways made Martha defect and take her pumpkin pie recipe with her to Blairsville. That whole back and forth with Martha and Abigail is relatively normal behavior but exaggerated with the town rivalry going on. Stephanie does a great job of handling everything that the town throws at her.

The Fall Competitions are:

  • A pumpkin toss
  • Face painting, which Grace entered and painted a Frankenstein typeface on Nick.
  • Pumpkin craving. Sam entered this at Grace’s request. Those surgeon’s hands were able to carve a nice looking pumpkin.
  • Scariest Scarecrow contest. Grace gloated Nick into entering and bringing out all of the stops.
  • Last but not least was the pumpkin pie contest. Which is being judged by a celebrity chef from a national morning show that the characters all watch.

I won’t tell you who won the contests; you will have to watch the movie.

A few criticisms
  • Cassie keeps pulling family heirlooms out of thin air it seems.
  • Wasn’t Grace in her senior year last season? She just realizes that this is her last Halloween in Middletown, shouldn’t she have graduated already?
  • When are Sam and Cassie going to get married?

Those things aside I thought the movie was terrific and romantic. If you have watched any of the Good Witch movies or the series, this is a must watch.

My understanding is that the whole cast will be back next year for a new season, which I am looking forward to watching it. I hope you are too.
