In a country obsessed with genetically inherited gifts, Bella Fenwick is no one special. At least that’s what she’s been led to believe. Then a handsome Ruthenian walks into her life, a wolf at his side. He won’t let Bella hide behind her desk and discredit the evidence she’s discovered that could lead to a murderer.
Sent by his high marshal to investigate the death of an official’s daughter, Beast Master Markus Ralston and his wolf, Lunah, don’t let something as trivial as politics get in the way of learning the truth. Markus knows Bella can help, even if she doesn’t want to believe him, and he insists on her assistance in the case. Much to Lunah’s dismay, Markus soon realizes more than the Sziverian woman’s unique talent may have drawn them together as whisperings of mate slide across his nerves anytime they touch…
Following the clues no one else has bothered to look for, they quickly realize they’re on a race against time before the frozen nights thaw and the serial killer disappears…
Frozen Flowers Fallen by Sarah Westill is a fantastic short story that left me wanting more.
Will Bella and Markus find the serial killer before he strikes again?
Bella
Bella is a clerk with the local police department. She is called gen-common, meaning she doesn’t have a “power” that the government recognizes. Bella’s mother is a matchmaker, and the actions of her deceased father have caused them to lose their home and standing in society. You can tell that Bella is knowledgeable, but she tries to hide it so as not to draw unwanted attention to herself.
I was immediately drawn to Bella. As soon as she met Markus, I was rooting for them. They make a good team. Hopefully, Bella working with Markus won’t cause her problems at work as I know she and her mother need the money she makes.
Markus, the Beast Master, and Lunah
Markus is in Sziveria to find out who killed the daughter of a Ruthenian Provincial Marshall. He is to work with the Sziverian investigators to find the culprit and bring him to justice. However, they don’t want to work with him or give him any respect. Markus is no fool and is not falling for their hastily put together evidence against someone he believes doesn’t fit. I like that he doesn’t back down and isn’t prejudiced like the society in Sziveria.
Lunah is fabulous. She has this connection to Markus that is remarkably strong. The link also makes her endeared to Bella too. Lunah isn’t as scary as other people see her, but I would not want to be on the other side of her attitude. That is for sure.
Five Stars
Ms. Westill has created the most fantastic world. I adore spending time in it with the characters that she has brought to life. There is a simplicity but with this added darkness that makes their lives so different from ours and yet the same. My rating for Frozen Flowers Fallen by Sarah Westill is five stars, and I highly recommend this novella along with the rest of the Gen-Heirs world series.
