Moving back to my hometown of Pumpkin Hollow should have been easy. But when the most hated woman in town is murdered, the police start looking in my direction and I have to wonder if moving home was a good idea.

In Pumpkin Hollow, Halloween is celebrated all year long. Mia Jordan has just moved home after being gone ten years, and when she discovers a neighbor has been murdered, it casts a shadow on the town's year-round Halloween theme. Can Mia find the killer and save the town's Halloween celebration before it's too late?

Who could have killed the busybody neighbor?

Candy Coated Murder by Kate Bell is a short fun-filled mystery set in the town of Pumpkin Hollow. They celebrate Halloween year-round in this small town.

This book is my first by Kate Bell. This book is also the first in the Pumpkin Hollow Mysteries series.

Our sleuth

Mia Jordan has been away from Pumpkin Hollow for 12 years gathering degree after degree. She can’t seem to figure out what she wants to do with her life. So, she moves home to Pumpkin Hollow. Some things are different in the small town, but some things aren’t.

Mia is back working at the family’s candy store. She likes being back, and this may be what she was looking for even though she wasn’t aware of it. However, Mia is the curious type, and she doesn’t like the positive reaction that people are having about Hazel’s demise. So, she is going to get to the bottom of this.

The mystery

Hazel Martin was killed and set up as a Halloween decoration. Why would someone kill her? Sure, she was a busybody and complained about everyone constantly.

Mia’s friends and family

Ann Jordan is Mia’s mom. She owns the candy store where Mia works.

Amanda Krigbaum was Mia’s best friend growing up. She is engaged to Brian Shoate, who owns the coffee shop.

Ethan Banks is a police officer and former class-mate of Mia’s. There is a little bad blood on Mia’s side, but it looks like that is clearing up. (Possible love interest?)

Jasper Smith is Ethan’s partner on the police force.

The Suspects

Stella and Vince Moretti own the bakery down the street from Mia’s parent’s candy shop. Stella didn’t like Hazel and is thrilled that she is gone.

Mr. Gott is the neighbor on the other side of Hazel’s house. They truly don’t like each other. Mr. Gott is not his usual self, and Mia is worried about him.

Martha Mayes is the homeowner association’s manager. She is ecstatic that Hazel is gone. Now, Martha has so much time on her hands that it is lovely.

5 Stars for Candy Coated Murder by Kate Bell

I loved Candy Coated Murder by Kate Bell. It is a five-star book. The mystery was well played, with a couple of red herrings and plenty of clues. The characters are well thought out, and I was rooting for Mia from the beginning. I hope that she and Ethan get together.
