Christmas has come to Fern Valley, and the town’s decked out with enough glitter and sparkle for a month’s worth of celebrations, each more over-the-top than the previous one. The idyllic setting, filled with laughter, carols, and sweet treats, is shattered, along with some of the decorations, when the current wife and the ex-wife of a big-cat showman have a knock-down, drag-out fight in the center of town. Jules Keene, owner of the Fern Valley Glamping Resort, tries to keep peace among her guests and with the town council, but it turns into a catastrophe when Tabbi Morris, winds up dead in one of her ex-husband’s tiger cages.

And if the murder wasn’t enough, Jules discovers that some of the big cats are missing, but the owner and his family insists that nothing is wrong.

Curiosity gets the best of her, and she has to solve the murder and figure out if the owner of Cal’s Cats is pussy-footing around or whether it’s something more sinister before it ruins the holiday season and her business.

Christmas Lights and Cat Fights by Heather Weidner is a delightful, cozy animal mystery set around Christmas time.

Can Jules have a peaceful Christmas with no mysteries to solve?

Jules Keene

Jules Keene is back and ready to go again. Okay, but not really to solve another mystery. She just wanted a lovely, relaxing Christmas festival and a nice Christmas. Except that doesn’t look to be in the cards for her. Jules is doing much better at running her resort, and I have to say that she is doing a great job of bringing business to her small town during the holiday season. Well, when the people are coming for the wonderful little town, not the murder part. Jules is a wonderful character who sometimes does things she shouldn’t do, but if it helps solve the mystery at hand, she seems ok with it.

She and Jake are doing great, and I’m glad to see them together. They make a fabulous team for building tiny houses and taking care of the resort.

The Mystery

Jules Keene had just finished celebrating the first weekend of her Christmas festival and was looking around her property to ensure it was ready for round two. That is when she found Tabbi Morris’s dead body. Now, she has to solve the mystery of a dead body so that no one will think that her resort is a great place to go to kill people. Jules also has another mystery to solve when she realizes that their big cat attraction has some big cats missing.

I have to say that I did solve both mysteries and figured out the motive, but I enjoyed following the clues.

Four Stars

Christmas Lights and Cat Fights by Heather Weidner is a great book to read when you want to get into the mood for Christmas. Well, that is if you don’t mind reading a cozy mystery while eating Christmas cookies and sitting in front of a nice fire. Okay, that does sound pretty good. I am giving four stars to Christmas Lights and Cat Fights by Heather Weidner and recommending it to anyone who wants to read a holiday book before the holidays like I did.

Remember to check out the recipes in the back of the book as well. They are for Ooey-Gooey Chocolate Brownies, Jules’s Cheesy Chicken Pasta Bake, Pop’s Coca-Cola Cake, Crystal’s Eggnoog French Toast, Lula Belle’s Pecan Pie Muffins, Kissy Peanut Butter Cookies, Crystal’s Cheesy Sausage Balls, and Triple-layer Peanut Butter Brownies. I might have to convince Jen to let me do one of these either during Christmas or Thanksgiving this year.
