There is nothing like finding a dead body, clad only in a red satin thong, on your property to jolt you from a quiet routine. Jules Keene, owner of the posh Fern Valley Camping Resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is thrust into the world of the Dark Web when one of her guests, Ira Perkins, is found murdered in the woods near her vintage trailers. Jules quickly discovers that the man who claimed to be on a writing retreat was not what he seemed, and someone will go to any length to find what he left at her resort. Jules, along with her Jack Russell Terrier sidekick Bijou, has to put the rest of the missing pieces of a blackmailing scheme together before her business is ruined.

Jules’s resort, set in the heart of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains near Charlottesville in the quaint town of Fern Valley, offers guests a unique vacation in refurbished and upcycled vintage trailers. Hoping to expand her offerings, she partners with her maintenance/security guy to create a village of tiny houses, the latest home DIY craze, but a second murder of a reporter interrupts Jules’s expansion plans. Curiosity gets the best of her, and she steps up her sleuthing to find out what Ira Perkins was really up to and what he was really hiding at her resort.

Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers by Heather Weidner is the first book, and it’s great.

Will Jules figure out what Ira is doing?

Jules Keene

Jules Keene is the sleuth and our main character. She’s the owner of the camping resort that her parent’s started when she was little. Jules loves the resort and is trying to think of many things to keep the resort open almost all year round. That way, she can figure out the payroll. Jules is an intelligent woman who wants what is best for the campground and brings people to Fern Valley. I love that about Jules since a lot of her plans sound good to me for the resort. She is an excellent character in the way that Jules wants to help the police solve the crime, not just that her resort can go back to normal.

The VictimVintage Trailers and Blackmailers CR

Two of Jules’s resort guests found Ira Perkins in the forest. Ira Perkins is the first victim and the reason why the second victim died. He told Jules and everyone else that he was there to write a book, so do not disturb him. Ira wasn’t writing a book but doing something shady in his trailer. Jules decides to figure out what he is doing and how to get the people after him to leave her resort park alone. She does this exceptionally well while also getting way further into the investigation than what Jules wanted. Ira, as a character, wasn’t a nice person since he could talk a good talk, but when someone started talking to him, a lot of things didn’t sound right. Suspicions were right as Jules found out a lot more about Ira and what he was doing. Ira wasn’t a nice person, but did he deserve to die the way he did? Probably not. But did he deserve to die? Who knows.

Five Stars

Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers by Heather Weidner is a fantastic start to a new series for Ms. Weidner. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series to find out what else Jules can get into when it comes to solving a mystery. Jules, Roxanne, Jake, and Emily are all great characters, and I can’t wait to see what else can happen with them. I am giving Vintage Trailers and Blackmailers by Heather Weidner five stars and recommending it to everyone that likes to read cozy mysteries.
