1814 promises to be another eventful season, but not, This Author believes, for Anthony Bridgerton, London's most elusive bachelor, who has shown no indication that he plans to marry. And in all truth, why should he? When it comes to playing the consummate rake, nobody does it better...
--Lady Whistledown's Society Papers, April 1814But this time the gossip columnists have it wrong. Anthony Bridgerton hasn't just decided to marry--he's even chosen a wife! The only obstacle is his intended's older sister, Kate Sheffield--the most meddlesome woman ever to grace a London ballroom. The spirited schemer is driving Anthony mad with her determination to stop the betrothal, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate's the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams...
Contrary to popular belief, Kate is quite sure that reformed rakes to not make the best husbands--and Anthony Bridgerton is the most wicked rogue of them all. Kate's determined to protect her sister--but she fears her own heart is vulnerable. And when Anthony's lips touch hers, she's suddenly afraid she might not be able to resist the reprehensible rake herself...
The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn is wonderfully witty and perfectly executed.
Will Anthony and Kate find love or argue for the rest of the season.
Kate Sheffield
Kate is the eldest daughter of the second son of a baron. Basically, she is economically challenged. She is also twenty-one, not yet a spinster but possibly heading there. However, she is intelligent and very opinionated. Kate’s quick wit could be her downfall with Anthony, although she only cares about her family and not the feelings of the rakish viscount.
I love Kate. She is such a breath of fresh air. The way that she puts Anthony in his place and challenges him is so fabulous. Oh, and the situations that these two get into are hilarious. I was laughing out loud often. Then there is her dog, Newton. What a crazy corgi.
The Viscount, Anthony Bridgerton
Anthony has decided that he is getting married this season, and it will not be a lovematch. He has decided that he will marry Edwina Sheffield, Kate’s younger sister. However, word has it that he must have Kate’s approval before proposing to Edwina. Colin helps make the introductions and is thrilled that Kate has already formed an opinion regarding Anthony, and the first meeting doesn’t go as planned.
Anthony…I adore him. He was spectacular in The Duke and I, but really getting to know him is terrific. He is much deeper and slightly broken. But he is still kind and genuinely loves his mother and siblings. His relationship with his parents is lovely. He can be a gentleman when it suits him.
Lady Whistledown
I didn’t mention her in my last review, but she is pretty knowledgeable. Interestingly, she can get gossip even when no one knows that she is there. It’s quite intriguing. She is daring with her outing of the ton’s dastardly deeds, comings, and goings. Lady Whitledown must have spies everywhere.
Five Stars
I enjoyed Daphne and Simon’s story, but honestly, Anthony and Kate are my favorite right now. My rating for The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn is five stars. I highly recommend this series to all of you regency romance fans out there.
Oh, and don’t forget that 2nd season of Bridgerton will be out on Netflix on March 25th. I can’t wait to see what Shondaland does with the Pall Mall scene and the scene from Anthony’s office. Yes, this is the season of Anthony. It should be hilariously brilliant.
