Sir Phillip knew that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he'd proposed, figuring that she'd be homely and unassuming, and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage. Except she wasn't. The beautiful woman on his doorstep was anything but quiet, and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth, all he wanted to do was kiss her and more. Did he think she was mad? Eloise Bridgerton couldn't marry a man she had never met! But then she started thinking and wondering and before she knew it, she was in a hired carriage in the middle of the night, on her way to meet the man she hoped might be her perfect match. Except he wasn't. Her perfect husband wouldn't be so moody and ill-mannered, and while Phillip was certainly handsome, he was a large brute of a man, rough and rugged, and totally unlike the London gentlemen vying for her hand. But when he smiledand when he kissed herthe rest of the world simply fell away, and she couldn't help but wonder could this imperfect man be perfect for her?

To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn caught me by surprise. I completely adored Eloise’s growth and the romance that she finds.

Will Eloise find love, even though she has no choice in marriage now?

Eloise Bridgerton

Eloise has always been strong-willed and voiced her opinions. However, when she allows jealousy to rule her present mind, it seems that she also seals her fate. She runs from her family unsupervised and with no regard for her safety. It seemed like a gutsy move, even for her.

Eloise truly comes into herself in this installment. We see a different side of Eloise. She is of course scheming when it comes to playing Phillip’s children. Yet, you can feel how much she wants to embrace them and make their life better. Patience is not a word anyone would use to describe Eloise but we can see how she learns it in this book. Eloise is one of my favorite Bridgertons. It is nice that her story reflects her stubbornness and uniqueness. I am so glad that she finds a place where she is needed and can manage everything.

Phillip Crane

To Sir Phillip, With Love CRPhillip is the opposite of Eloise. He is quiet, with a temper, and has never had loving parents. In fact, he is a botanist and spends the majority of his time in the greenhouse. After corresponding with Eloise for over a year, he thinks he knows her but is very surprised when Eloise shows up at his door. He knows something must be wrong for her to show up unannounced but after seeing her he can’t turn her away.

I like Phillip. He wants to be a good father, better than his father at least. Yet, everything in his life has been chosen for him, but now, he is choosing Eloise. Phillip has a temper raging inside of him but Eloise seems to make it easier for him. He needs someone to manage his household and be a mother to his children. Yet, what he really needs is someone to love him for him, and Eloise does that. Which is beautiful. Phillip has always wanted happiness and laughter in his life and with Eloise, they will both have that.

Anthony Bridgerton

Anthony and the other three Bridgerton brothers must find Eloise and save her honor. We get to see a bit deeper into Anthony as he shows Eloise a soft side but reminds her of the harsh reality of the situation that she has brought on herself.

Anthony sighed, and he crouched beside her. “You’re not a terrible person, Eloise. You know that.”
She looked up at him, wondering when it was that this man, her brother, had become so wise. If he’d yelled one more word, spent one more minute speaking to her in the mocking voice, she would have broke. She would have broke, or she would have hardened, but either way, something between them would have been ruined.
But here he was, Anthony of all people, who was arrogant and proud and every inch the arch nobleman he’d been born to be, kneeling at her side, placing his hand on hers, and speaking with a kindness that nearly broke her heart.

Five Stars

I was unexpectantly surprised by this installment. Where I like Eloise, I was upset with her pettiness and jealousy. However, Ms. Quinn spun her tale beautifully, and again, I found myself taken in by Eloise’s quick wit and bossiness. My rating for To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn is five stars. Again, I highly recommend this series. I find that I wish I had found it earlier.

About Julia Quinn

Julia Quinn

#1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn loves to dispel the myth that smart women don’t read (or write) romance, and and if you watch reruns of the game show The Weakest Link you might just catch her winning the $79,000 jackpot. She displayed a decided lack of knowledge about baseball, country music, and plush toys, but she is proud to say that she aced all things British and literary, answered all of her history and geography questions correctly, and knew that there was a Da Vinci long before there was a code.

A graduate of Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges, Ms. Quinn is one of only sixteen members of Romance Writers of America’s Hall of Fame. Her books have been translated into 32 languages, and she lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest.

The Bridgertons, her popular series of historical romance, is currently in production by Shondaland as a Netflix original series starring Julie Andrews, Phoebe Dynevor, and Rége-Jean Page.
