Everyone knows that Colin Bridgerton is the most charming man in London . . .

Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend's brother for . . . well, it feels like forever. After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret . . . and fears she doesn't know him at all.

Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought of as nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can't seem to publish an edition without mentioning him. But when Colin returns to London from a trip abroad, he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same—especially Penelope Featherington! The girl who was always simply there is suddenly the girl haunting his dreams. When he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide . . . is she his biggest threat— or his promise of a happy ending?

Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn is a wonderfully romantic story of two people finding each other.

Will Colin open his eyes and see what his future could be? Will Penelope be able to keep her secrets?

Penelope Featherton

There are more layers to Penelope Featherton than most give her credit. Once you get past her shyness, she is witty, sweet, with a beautiful sense of humor. However, most people only see the wallflower persona that has been put on her. The Bridgertons have always liked her and, for the most part, tried to protect her from the Cressinda’s of the ton. However, Penelope has secrets of her own, which may interest those near to her.

Penelope is one of my favorite characters in this series. I feel sorry and admire her all at the same time. The worst is that Portia, her mother, underestimates Penelope, not that she doesn’t love her, she doesn’t see her true value.

Colin Bridgerton

Romancing Mister Bridgerton CRColin is the most charming, good-tempered of the Bridgerton males. He also has a winning smile. Colin comes off as the happy-go-lucky gentleman for the most part. However, this installment brings a different side of Colin, one where he has fits of jealousy and anger. He also seems to be looking for something that he can’t figure out. Colin doesn’t seem to realize how fortunate he is in life.

I found it hard to see this side of Colin, whom I honestly thought of in some of the same ways as Lady Whistledown. Yet, Colin proves his worth and is adorably in love in the end. I understand his protectiveness, and it’s so cute.

Lady Danbury

Lady Danbury has friended Penelope, and in many ways, they are alike. There is mutual respect between the two. Lady Danbury truly is high class. She is much like Violet Bridgerton; she just doesn’t have the wonderful children that Violet enjoys. When she issues the challenge to find who Lady Whistledown is, I was speechless.

I find Lady Danbury to be a fabulous character. She controls the room and demands respect. Lady Danbury truly made herself a force to be reckoned with. I can see her as one of the tough but fair self-help ladies now. I would quite like to be her friend.

Five Stars

Ms. Quinn is a fantastic writer. She finds these hidden features in her characters that make us stand up and cheer them on or want to box their ears. I found myself highly invested in Colin and Penelope’s romance. Thank you, Ms. Quinn! My rating for Romancing Mister Bridgerton is five stars. I highly recommend this series to all of you historical romance readers out there.

Don’t forget that the second season of Bridgerton by Shondaland drops tomorrow on Netflix. I am so excited.

About Julia Quinn

Julia Quinn

#1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn loves to dispel the myth that smart women don’t read (or write) romance, and and if you watch reruns of the game show The Weakest Link you might just catch her winning the $79,000 jackpot. She displayed a decided lack of knowledge about baseball, country music, and plush toys, but she is proud to say that she aced all things British and literary, answered all of her history and geography questions correctly, and knew that there was a Da Vinci long before there was a code.

A graduate of Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges, Ms. Quinn is one of only sixteen members of Romance Writers of America’s Hall of Fame. Her books have been translated into 32 languages, and she lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest.

The Bridgertons, her popular series of historical romance, is currently in production by Shondaland as a Netflix original series starring Julie Andrews, Phoebe Dynevor, and Rége-Jean Page.
