The young king of Coroa has never been the type to settle down—that is, until he meets Hollis Brite.
Hollis has grown up at Keresken Castle among the other daughters of nobility who hoped beyond hope that they’d catch the king’s eye. So when King Jameson declares his love for her, Hollis is shocked—and thrilled.
But she soon realizes that along with the extravagant presents and fawning attention, this new life brings outsized expectations—expectations that make her wonder if she’s really cut out for life as a royal.
With a visit from the king of Isolte on the horizon, Hollis sees a chance to prove to Jameson—and herself—that she has what it takes to be queen. But when she meets an Isolten stranger with the mysterious power to see right into her heart, she finds that the future she wants is one she never dared to dream of.
The Betrothed by Kiera Cass brings us Hollis Brite—a character whose story is still unfolding.
Will Hollis stay with King Jameson or go with this Isolten stranger?
Hollis Brite
Hollis Brite is our point-of-view character, and let’s say she isn’t the brightest, but according to some people, that is. She tries her hardest to learn what she needs to learn, but some things don’t stick in her head. Hollis is Lord and Lady Brite’s only daughter; as such, she’s at court trying to win over the king’s affection. Hollis is a complicated character who struggles to voice her opinion. She is strong in ways Hollis hasn’t touched yet, but one can see.
I like Hollis. She knows what she wants in life, even if outside forces have other plans for her. I would be friends with Hollis.
The Love Interests
Like the other ladies in court, Lady Hollis tries to win the king’s affection so they can rule over the kingdom together one day. Well, until Hollis realizes that maybe being royalty in court isn’t meant for her.
King Jameson is a complicated character since he wants a great queen to be by his side but only sees Hollis as someone to make him laugh. I didn’t like King Jameson as he only thinks of women as a way to further his reign.
Her other love interest is the Isolten stranger, and that one is more of an instalove situation. Hollis and Silas, the Isolten stranger, met at court, and they couldn’t help but be drawn to each other. Silas and his family have their troubles, and Hollis isn’t aware of them.
I like Silas and his relationship with Hollis. The two of them make a good couple.
