What’s a girl to do when her best friend is making a huge mistake?

College sophomore Emily Dilbert has been best friends with Dylan Chamberlain since the second grade. When she finds an engagement ring in Dylan’s backpack, she panics and vows to do whatever it takes to stop him from marrying a girl he barely knows.

Dylan Chamberlain has been in love with his brother’s girlfriend, Emily, since they were kids. When his brother asks for help planning a surprise proposal, Dylan knows it’s time to bury his feelings and finally let Emily go. If only his heart would cooperate.

After her roommates fail to lure Dylan away from his girlfriend, Emily is forced to confront him directly. When she accidentally puts them in a compromising position, will Dylan reveal his long-buried feelings, or will Emily realize she’s dating the wrong brother?

Stalling for Time by Christy Hayes is the first book in a series set with a bunch of young adults in college trying to figure out their lives.

Will Emily be able to figure out that she’s dating the wrong brother?

Emily Dilbert

Emily Dilbert is a sophomore in college and has been dating Zach Chamberlain, the oldest Chamberlain boy since she was a sophomore in high school. She knows that they have been in a lull, and instead of telling Zach that Emily lets them keep on coasting by while acting like nothing is wrong until she finds a ring in her best friend’s bag and thinks that he will be asking, his girlfriend.

They’re some things that I like about Emily and some things that I don’t like about her. I like Emily because she’s going to school for what she loves to do and won’t let anyone stop her from making her dreams come true. That’s actually the only thing that I like about her. That takes us to what I dislike about Emily, which is that I feel like she’s leading both Zach and Dylan on. Zach, intentionally as she doesn’t have the guts to end their relationship and with Dylan unintentionally by being his best friend all these years when she feels more than friendship.

Emily should have asked about the ring instead of doing everything that she ended up doing. I didn’t feel that connection with her.

Dylan Chamberlain

Dylan Chamberlain is the younger brother to Zach Chamberlain, and he’s an all-around good guy. He tries to keep his feelings for Emily buried while doing everything in his wheelhouse to remain her best friend. That is until something leads him and Emily in a compromising position, and he doesn’t know what to do. Dylan is also at fault with some of the things that happened, but if he didn’t do all the things I’m thinking about, we wouldn’t have had our story. He is a sweet guy even though he can’t help his feelings for Emily. Dylan could have easily have told Zach how he felt about Emily before any of this happened, but once again then we wouldn’t have a story.

Stalling for Time CRThem Together

Dylan and Emily as friends were a great pairing and the fact that they got along so well with each other is good. The two of them together as more than friends is good and something that they have to figure out as they go along.

However, together they have to deal with Dylan knowing that it will be awkward during vacation times with his family and that some people might not like him now. Emily has to get over the five-year relationship with Zach and hope that nothing bad happens to them. They are cute together.

Four Stars

I am giving Stalling for Time by Christy Hayes four stars because I didn’t care for Emily, but I found some excellent parts of the book where I was totally engrossed. Ms. Hayes does a good job of moving the story along, even though I probably would have ended it at a different part. Other than those things, I did love the book and the story.
