After finding a severed leg on her porch, Lark Davis thought nothing could surprise her anymore. Then someone places a pile of human bones outside of her barn.
Neatly.
Lark is horrified and shocked. But mostly just disturbed and irritated.
Twenty years ago, a young wife disappeared without a trace, leaving her abusive husband and a guilt-ridden town behind. It wasn’t until the bones showed up that anyone suspected foul play. Now gossip, theories and accusations run rampant as the town of Barrow Bay tries to avoid facing a reality none of them are prepared for; they’ve been living with a murderer for twenty years.
Someone wants Lark to solve the cold case, but looking into the past brings up more than just ghosts. As possible secrets, betrayals, and love affairs gone wrong are revealed, Lark’s family is smack dab in the middle of everything.
Is Lark up to solving the decades-old murder? Or will the past remain buried forever?
Saddle Up by Annabelle Hunter brings Lark and Brecken closer together as she closes two cold cases.
Will Lark clear her father of the 20-year murder?
Someone dumped the bones of a young woman at Lark’s Barn. Once the bones are identified as Megan Abner, her father’s name keeps coming up in the investigation. Lark is going to have none of this. She knows that her father had nothing to do with it and doesn’t care what other people say. Since her dad isn’t here to stand up for himself, Lark will prove he didn’t do it. Anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong.
The town of Barrow Bay stands with her while believing that her dad would kill someone and hide all evidence. Lark doesn’t care what they say. She knows that her dad wouldn’t have an affair or kill someone.
Lark and her Friends (Spoilers)
In this installment, Lark has to face her grief to deal with the accusations against her father. She finally breaks down in front of Brecken, and he is there for her as she deals with her grief and the loss of her parents. I felt so sorry for Lark. It can’t be easy to be forced to deal with the death of her parents. Although, I think that she has some more work to do on that front.
Brecken and Lark have finally moved to the next step in their relationship. I think it is excellent as the two of them are perfect for each other. Of course, they don’t move forward like most people but embrace what works best for them. Moving forward is hard. I genuinely enjoy this couple as they are both damaged, but it works for them.
Lindsey and Lark’s friendship is growing, and I think that Lark is once again shown that Lindsey isn’t just a crazy blogger. Oh, and it looks like Lindsey got a dog. Which the town named on her blog. I think it’s terrific now Lindsey has someone to love her unconditionally.
Jen is seeing a counselor. She is still snarky but pulled some tools from her new psychological toolbox to use on Lark. I love the way that she handled that. Jen and Nic are doing well.
Five Stars
My rating for Saddle Up by Annabelle Hunter is five stars. I love this series. Lark is such a fantastic character, and everyone who lives in Barrow Bay is fabulous in their own neurotic way. I highly recommend this book and the series.
