When a young woman is found murdered in the woods behind the local veterinarian's office, the four Hurley sisters (Daisy, Lily, Rosie, and Amy) assume it is a tragedy that has nothing to do with them. But when the woman is identified as Skylar Smith, the sisters make an ominous connection: Skylar had threatened the eldest sister, Daisy, with a terrible secret just eight weeks before she was found dead.

Will the Hurley sisters make it through the investigation unharmed?

Two of the Hurley sisters are present when a dead body is found, and later they find that she is connected to their oldest sister. Through the investigation, they discover that each of their family is being stalked and threatened, but they don’t know why or who.

Daisy

Daisy Hurley is a widow who recently started working at the hospital. She has been grieving for a while and has finally gotten the nerve to join the world again. I like Daisy; she has gumption, but she lost her way after her husband died. The one bad thing about Daisy, that I saw, was that she seemed to need a man to find her happiness. Not that she is weak, just not happy being alone.

Lilly

Lilly is a wife, mother, and nurse. She is my favorite of the sisters. Lilly pushes the other ladies and has the cutest little ones. Although she is also extremely busy all the time, she manages to have a stellar relationship with her husband. Lilly even gets a promotion at work and still handles everything. Not that she is perfect, but she is still my favorite of the sisters.

Rosie

Rosie was a journalist who went to New York to learn her trade. However, she found that she missed her family and hometown. So she returned and is now trying to write a book. If she could sit and get the words out on the screen. She is the fun one. Lilly’s children adore her, and Rosie has a gigantic but adorable Newfoundland. In fact, the whole family has pets, so it’s a good thing that Rosie is getting together with the local veterinarian.

Amy

Amy is the youngest and, obviously, the only one not named after a flower. She is also the one who didn’t get to know her mom. Any is a law student, highly competitive, and a perfectionist. Amy is the most different of the sisters, but she is still a good character.

Throughout the investigation, the sisters meet their love interests, and those relationships bloom, well, except for Lilly, who had already found her match. I really liked the mix of suspense, love, family, and sisterhood that Ms. Peeples mixes throughout the story. The Hurley family takes time to keep their family together, and not everyone’s family is like that.

The other thing that I really liked was that the characters were all real. They didn’t just bounce back from a bad experience; they did the work necessary to get through it and became better people.

My rating for Murder Leads to Marriage by Shannon Peeples is four stars. Ms. Peeples tells an amazing tale and kept me entertained. I recommend it to all readers who like a bit more family in their mysteries.
