With the help of her rescue cat, Eddie, librarian Minnie Hamilton is driving a bookmobile based in the resort town of Chilson, Michigan. But she’d better keep both hands on the wheel, because it’s going to be a bumpy ride…

Eddie followed Minnie home one day, and now she can’t seem to shake the furry little shadow. But in spite of her efforts to contain her new pal, the tabby sneaks out and trails her all the way to the bookmobile on its maiden voyage. Before she knows it, her slinky stowaway becomes her cat co-pilot!

Minnie and Eddie’s first day visiting readers around the county seems to pass without trouble—until Eddie darts outside at the last stop and leads her to the body of a local man who’s reached his final chapter.

Initially, Minnie is ready to let the police handle this case, but Eddie seems to smell a rat. Together, they’ll work to find the killer—because a good librarian always knows when justice is overdue.

FIRST IN A NEW SERIES!

Lending a Paw by Laurie Cass is a different twist on the librarian aspect since Minnie goes on a bookmobile to different parts of the county to bring books to the residents.

Will Minnie solve Stan’s murder?

Minnie Hamilton

Minvera “Minnie” Hamilton is tasked by herself and one of her coworkers accused of murder to find the culprit. Minnie is honestly such a funny librarian character that I laughed about some of the things that she did. I agree with her on some of the things that she and Eddie disagree over. I don’t know if I ever want to own a houseboat, though. If Minnie and I were to meet on the street, I would think that we would be friends. I love libraries and books as well.

The Mystery

Lending a Paw CRMinnie and Eddie find Stan Larabee’s body with a bullet hole going right through his chest. Poor Minnie was so shocked at finding his dead body that she thought she could save him. She wants to find justice for her friend, and then one of her coworkers is being blamed for his death. Minnie being a good person decides to find whoever did this because she doesn’t think that the police are taking any of her suggestions seriously. Let’s say that Minnie has her work cut out for her. I didn’t know exactly who did it, but I had a feeling that it was a certain person. My feeling was correct, by the way. Did you know who the killer was?

Five Stars

Lending a Paw by Laurie Cass is everything that I hoped it would be. It kept me wanting to read more and more of it as I got further along. Some parts were boring, but hey, not everything can be exciting when your job is being a librarian. Ms. Cass did a wonderful job on this book, and I can’t wait to read more when I find time in my schedule. I am giving this book five stars and recommending it to anyone that loves cozies too.

About Laurie Cass

Laurie Cass grew up in Michigan and graduated from college in the 80’s with a (mostly unused) degree in geology. She turned to writing in the late nineties. After a number of years in management, she felt the need to move on and took a job with fewer responsibilities. A month later, she was dead bored and began to consider writing as a way to wake up her brain. She started reading a lot of books on writing and happened across a particular sentence: “What’s it going to be, reasons or results?”

The phrase practically stuck her in the eye. She printed it out, framed it, and put it next to her computer. “Reasons or results?” At the end of her life, was she going to have a pile of reasons for not having done anything? Or was she going to sit down and write a book? Once she started looking at it that way, the decision was easy. A short 13 years later, her first book was published.

Currently, Laurie and her husband share their house with two cats, the inestimable Eddie and the adorably cute Sinii. When Laurie isn’t writing, she’s working at her day job, reading, attempting to keep the flowerbeds free of weeds, or doing some variety of skiing. She also write the PTA Mysteries under the name Laura Alden.
