“My descent to the Seventh Circle of Hell began with a lawn chair.”

When Maggie loses a lucrative contract for her P.I. agency due to an accidental full frontal flashing, she’s forced to accept the only other job on offer: one involving her nemesis, the pampered show cat, Quibbles. Maggie and her wacky associate Lenny are hired to escort Quibbles to the final round of auditions to become the face of a luxury cat food brand, Purrfect Paws.

Instead of the five-star hotel they were promised, Maggie and Lenny find themselves trapped in a run-down hostelry in the middle of a hurricane. To make matters worse, their fellow guests include five spoiled celebrity cats and their ruthlessly ambitious owners, all of whom are determined that their cat should be chosen as the face of Purrfect Paws.

And then a cat-astrophe strikes. One by one, the owners start dying. With the storm raging, and the body count rising, Maggie and Lenny are determined to find the killer before their inn turns into a morgue.

Can Maggie catch the killer or will her fur-midable opponent get the upper paw? Grab a copy and find out today!

Apocalypse Meow by Zara Keane has all the parts of a horror story with a partially happy ending.

Will Maggie and Lenny make it through the night alive with Quibbles?

Maggie and Lenny

Our detectives are Maggie and Lenny of Movie Club Investigations. They are tasked with getting Quibbles to the cat show and back in one piece. However, this cat show isn’t for the faint of heart. Someone among the Perfect Paws contestants and staff are taking out the others. After the high-class accommodations were removed, everyone had to move to the only other hotel in the area with open rooms. So, they went from five stars to negative five stars in all aspects of hospitality.

Maggie is our point of view. She keeps things moving forward in the investigation, trying to figure out means, opportunities, and motives. I like Maggie; it was fun being in her head. She tries to keep on point, but sometimes stray thoughts/questions pop out.

Lenny is a train wreck. His fashion choices are extremely unique. However, he seems to grasp the detecting part of his job. He tries to keep Maggie out of trouble, but sometimes the troubling situation finds him first.

We can’t forget to mention Quibbles. Quibbles is a Maine coon whose sole purpose is to be pampered. He is also the reason Maggie and Lenny are where they are. Quibbles has a love/hate relationship with Maggie and Lenny. He expects them to tend to his needs first and foremost.

Apocalypse Meow CRThe Mystery

I loved how they were stranded in an old hotel without electricity, internet, or phones. Reminiscent of the locked room mysteries of the past. The way Ms. Keane put everything together is genius. I fell for a red herring and was clueless until the reveal. I love the introduction of Angel, Maggie’s cousin, and how she plays into the investigation.

Five Stars

My rating for Apocalypse Meow by Zara Keane is five stars. I enjoyed the mystery. The characters are wonderfully witty and snarky with the perfect timing. There is just enough humor to keep it light. I recommend Apocalypse Meow to all the cozy fans out there.

There is also a recipe for a Courgette Martini at the end. I am unsure if it’s a good fit for me, but I will try it.

About Zara Keane

Zara Keane

USA Today bestselling author Zara Keane grew up in Dublin, Ireland, but spent her summers in a small town very similar to the fictional Ballybeg and Smuggler’s Cove.

She currently lives in Switzerland with her family. When she’s not writing or wrestling small people, she drinks far too much coffee and tries – with occasional success – to resist the siren call of Swiss chocolate.
