After years of crying in her sweet tea, Regina finally has her life in order. She has a great job, wonderful friends, and a successful fiancé. But when the town council decides to do something special for this year’s Pickle Festival, life gets a little briny. As a former Pickle Queen, Regina has a chance to win fifty thousand dollars if she participates in a three-day photo scavenger hunt, but she must compete with her former Pickle King, Clint. He’s the guy who ripped her heart out when he left to play professional baseball and never looked back.

Clint Sorrow is as famous for starting bar fights as he is for stealing bases. Years ago, he vowed to never step foot back in Smithville, but when he finds out there’s a chance his baseball contract may not be renewed, he jumps at the opportunity to show his team he’s not a liability. As a bonus, he’ll get to spend time with Regina, the girl he left… and never stopped loving.

When Clint gets wind of Regina’s engagement, he decides he must stop it before she does something they’ll both regret. But Clint has a secret that will not only destroy her plans but may cause him to be benched for life.

In a Pickle by Cindy Dorminy is a lovely romantic comedy. I enjoyed reading this story immensely and love the crazy things on the Pickle Kings and Queens scavenger hunts.

Will Clint and Regina find their way back together?

Regina

Regina is one of our main characters. She is a nurse, and she loves her small-town life in Smithville. Regina has a huge heart and manages to not stay mad at her ex-husband for being an attention hog. She is terrific with Clint’s twin three-year-old nephews. You can see what an amazing mom she would be.

I love that Regina is strong, she handles her duties at the hospital along with all of the other things in her life. However, at the beginning of the story, Regina is lost. Regina seems just to be settling and doesn’t recognize what is right in front of her eyes. Although, she knows in heart that what she is doing isn’t right.

Clint

In a Pickle CRClint is our other main character. He is a professional baseball player with a bad reputation, whose in need of some positive publicity if he wants to continue being a baseball player. Clint goes back to his hometown to accomplish this and to stop Regina from marrying another man. What Clint finds is that he has missed the first three years of his nephew’s life. Also, he likes Smithville, and the reasons that he left aren’t there anymore.

Clint starts as a spoiled, pretty self-centered jerk, but as he learns how things are different now, he begins to grow. I do like the way he takes most things in stride. And Clint laughs and has a good time. It’s nice to see that he loves his brothers. Clint has some redeeming qualities, but will they be enough for Regina to give him another chance?

Five Stars

I love that Regina and Clint have immediate chemistry and that their love is strong, even if the trust isn’t there. The supporting characters excellent and so helpful when needed. The citizens of Smithville tell it like it is. However, they are there for each other. It’s pleasant to see the community and comradery. Also, the story has some wonderfully funny parts. Some of the ideas for scavenger hunt items are so unique.

So, with all of that going for In a Pickle by Cindy Dorminy, I feel that five stars are in order. If you are looking for a fun romance with lots of heart, I recommend this one.
