On again, off again, ON AGAIN–Jolie Tucker and Mick Meiser are giving their relationship another try. Things seem to be working out for them so far, and love is on the menu all over Leavensport! An unexpected pregnancy with a surprising partner, a therapist pairs off with the chief of police, and the mayor of Leavensport falls for Jolie’s Aunt Fern!

Although Leavensport is serving up affairs of the heart, there are a lot of mysterious activities lurking in the air. The townspeople awake to find freshly dug empty holes throughout the fields that were recently up for sale under suspicious circumstances. Jolie and Ava believe they are taking a break from solving murders when they start teaching an online cooking course–until they witness one of their students take a stake through the heart!

Welcome to Leavensport, OH, where DEATH takes a DELICIOUS turn!

Cast Iron Stake Through the Heart by Jodie Rath and Rebecca Grubb is another tale of how Jolie and Ava try to solve a case before the police do.

Can Jolie and Ava figure out who killed one of their students?

Jolie Tucker

Jolie Tucker is our main character and point of view narrator, who is sometimes good and sometimes bad. The good when she’s investigating and stuff. For the bad is when Jolie decides to take a mental health day or gets knocked out, and then that’s it for until Jolie wakes back up. Jolie is a good person at heart, but she needs to remember to bring more than one person as back up. She is still doing her therapy and is making progress with it. I am happy she is dealing with it.

What I like about her is that she is getting gutsy and tells her family to back off and let her process things before they come to check up on her. Another thing that I like is that she forces the conversation with Mick regarding their relationship. The one thing that I dislike is that she shouldn’t be trying to perm her hair to look like her friend when she looks beautiful with it straight as well.

The Mystery

Cast Iron Stake Through the Heart CRThe mystery in this one was a crazy one. We have an artist commune that had most of the girls in that class (all five of them) so that they can learn to cook. Not to bad, right? Right. Well, that is until one of them gets stabbed, and now everyone is looking at that commune trying to figure out what is going on at that place. I kind of fell for the red herrings, but not as I knew something was off. They did a great job of hiding the real person behind it.

Four Stars

Cast Iron Stake Through the Heart by Jodie Rath and Rebecca Grubb is an exciting pair to write together. I could hardly tell when one stopped and the other began in writing their parts of this book. It’s another one that kept me on my toes and wanting to know more and more. Jolie is always a fun main character to read from to find out how she is thinking about certain things.

I am giving Cast Iron Stake Through the Heart by Jodie Rath and Rebecca Grubb four stars and recommending it to anyone that wants to read it.

The recipes are Potato Soup, Cast Iron Skillet Steak, Glazed Carrots, Baked Asparagus with Parmesan, Southwestern Rice Salad, Betsy’s Love at First Sight Triple Chocolate Crunch Cake, Cast Iron Mexican Polenta Bowl, Spicy Skillet Peaches, and Cast Iron Breakfast Skillet.
