Join Ava and Carol along with their new friend Haylee as they race to solve the clues before the bad guys and to clear Alice’s family name.

The Witch's Secret is the eighth book in this middle grade mystery series that's perfect for curious-minded middle-schoolers. If you and your child like solving puzzles and exciting mysteries, then you’ll love Thomas Lockhaven’s high-energy adventure.

The Witch’s Secret by Thomas Lockhaven sees the girls, with Ava’s parents, going to Tempest, Maine, for Ava’s mom’s newest article.

Can the girls find any descendants of Alice Scarlett to return the necklace? How about finding the lost treasure?

Ava and Carol

Ava and Carol are in Tempest, Maine leading up to Halloween and the day after Halloween. In their room, they find a locket that belonged to the original house owners whom they have been renting for a short time. Ava and Carol get knee-deep into researching the locket so that they can return it to the rightful owner. I love how Ava and Carol set up their website to make their investigations real and that they are great at their jobs. Well, besides being kids who also go to school. Ava and Carol are so funny together and quite the opposite of each other. It’s what makes them a great team.

The Mystery

The Witch's Secret CRAva and Carol find a locket, so they decide instead of giving it to the people they are renting the house from that, they will return the locket to the original owner. That is a descendant of Alice Scarlett. Now, while doing their research to do this, they also get wrapped up in finding the treasure in the locket. Ava and Carol, along with their new friend Haylee, set out to find the treasure and a descendant of the Scarlett family to give everything to them. I love their ambition of ensuring that the locket and treasure go to the right people. Of course, along the way, the girls run into trouble.

Five Stars

The Witch’s Secret by Thomas Lockhaven sees the girls running into more and more trouble but this time for a good reason. I love how Mr. and Mrs. Clarke always bring Carol with them whenever they are traveling to keep Ava company and that they are in Maine. Ava and Carol always somehow find a mystery to solve. Mr. Lockhaven does fantastic work with this series, and I can’t wait to read more.

I am giving The Witch’s Secret by Thomas Lockhaven five stars and a recommendation to read to anyone who loves a good Middle Grade Mystery. Especially for Halloween or even after Halloween if you aren’t ready to give up Halloween’s holiday spirit to Thanksgiving just yet.

About Thomas Lockhaven

Thomas Lockhaven

You can blame my 7th grade English teacher, Mr. Ownby. I began writing mysteries in middle school, with gripping titles like, The Secret in The Swamp and The Ghost of Hollow Lake—Mr. Ownby, would kindly read them, and then encourage me to keep writing and reading the classics. His words, some day I’ll be reading your mysteries with the rest of the world inspired me.

Forty years later, I was able to fulfill my dreams and become a full time writer. When I began writing, I decided that my books would be a safe-haven from the real world. My children’s series all have strong messages of perseverance, thinking outside the box, friendship and loyalty. I have a daughter, and as I work through my manuscripts, I always try to imagine what I can say to inspire and entertain at the same time.

For my cozy readers, I spent much of my life traveling to small coastal towns in North Carolina and then later in my life to the coastal towns in New England. I’ve always loved the idiosyncrasies of the locals, and I’ve always wanted to bring them to life in a book series. My Coffee House Sleuths stories are just that. And just like my children’s books, I endeavor to write stories that are clean, with very little violence and no profanity. I do my best to help people disappear from the craziness of life, even if just for a little while.

I currently live in Boston, but my dream is to move to a small coastal town, stare out over the ocean, and to let the words flow. I have an incredible wife who constantly inspires and encourages me- and an amazing daughter who is my most harsh, but loving critic. As I said earlier, my passion is to write and to continually improve and perfect my craft. For those of you who read my books, I humbly thank you. For those of you who have never read my books, I welcome you with open arms.
