Pirates, mutiny and murder! Can this broom-making witch catch a killer?
Adelaide “Laidey” Ryan is adjusting to her new life in a cursed Renaissance Faire. But it’s not all bad for this broom-crafting witch. Her snarky black cat familiar and the dashing pirate captain help make the fantastical faire feel like home, but trouble is brewing for this novice witch…When a pirate is murdered and the handsome captain thrown behind bars, Laidey vows to get to the bottom of this murky case. With an enchanted broom on the lam, a centuries old vendetta against a sea sorceress, and mutinous scallywags threatening her life, she’s soon sailing into dangerous waters.
Can Laidey conjure the clues to catch the murderer, or will this new witch end up sleeping with the fishes?
Taming of the Broom is the sixth book in the humorous paranormal cozy series, Magical Renaissance Faire Mysteries. If you like hilarious heroines, fun faires, and imaginative mysteries, you’ll love Erin Johnson’s charming whodunit.
The Taming of the Broom by Erin Johnson has the pirates feuding and backstory for them.
Will Adelaide figure out who killed a pirate?
Adelaide “Laidey” Ryan
Laidey Ryan is still getting used to living in the cursed Renaissance Faire. She is trying not to use magic or do anything that isn’t what Laidey is used to do before she is stuck in the Faire. However, she is involved because she doesn’t trust the sheriff not to pin it on her handsome pirate captain crush. I must admit that Ms. Johnson does a fabulous job of creating her witch characters that are so different from each other. Laidey is a one-of-a-kind character that watches Law and Order and tries to use that knowledge in this book. I love Laidey and how she is reluctant to use her magic until she realizes that she might not have a choice but to use it.
The Mystery
Adelaide Ryan, Bruce, and Hilde were all in the broom shop when a play was going on, and they heard the victim shouting out before being hit. Or at least that is what it sounds like. They find the dead body, and everyone is upset about it. The sheriff arrests Bruce for attacking another pirate for killing the deceased pirate. Laidey is now on the case to solve the mystery of what happened with the deceased so that Bruce could get out of jail. The problem is, how is Laidey supposed to do that while working at the broom shop and not alerting the other pirate, who is also a captain?
Five Stars
The Taming of the Broom by Erin Johnson is a fantastically written story that had me guessing who could have done it. I got it right until some evidence popped up, and I discredited the killer. Did you figure out who did it? Ms. Johnson has a great way of making me doubt myself when solving her mysteries. I am giving The Taming of the Broom by Erin Johnson five stars and a recommendation to read this story. At some point, I might go back to read the fourth and fifth books in this series when I have time.
