Evangeline moved home to Graisseville, Louisiana. Three years after her husband passed away. Once she is settled, her brother asks for help on a cold case. You see, Evangeline writes a detective series, but also because her husband was also a cop. Nate thought this would help the widow get out of the house, meet some new people, and probably get into a situation where she needed to eat. Ev is a great character; she tries her best to please everyone around her. I like that she has her dog now to keep her company.

The Mystery

After getting permission from his boss, Nate goes to Ev to see if she can provide much-needed new eyes on the case. The case is cold and has been that way for a whole year. A young man was murdered in his kitchen after work one day. With the help of Shorty, her handyman and childhood friend, Ev is on it. I didn’t figure it out until Ev did. That means that Ms. Franklin did a fantastic job.

Five Stars

My rating for Muffalettas and Murder by Jann Franklin is five stars, and I definitely recommend it to all cozy mystery readers. Ms. Franklin does an excellent job of weaving the clues together and keeping the true killer from coming to the surface.

She and her husband John enjoy Sundays at Grand Cane Baptist Church, supper with family and friends, and the sense of community that comes from living the small-town life. Their kids come to visit, when they aren’t too busy living their big-city lives.
