Character Interview with McKenzie Price

How did you and your author meet?

Hi. I’m McKenzie Price. I’ve lived in Kudzu Creek all my life and worked at the Southern Fried Kudzu diner since I was in high school. I met Danielle when she came to Kudzu Creek to play matchmaker with Bradley and Claire in A Promise For His Daughter. She returned when Lindsey Judd came to town in A Home For the Twins and made sure I was at Book Club, then she set me in her sights. I guess my working at the diner while dreaming about opening a bookstore caught her attention.

Why did this writer decide to feature you in a whole series of books?

Sometimes we go unnoticed and underappreciated working in the background. I like to serve people and love to read. Everyone in town worried about me working too hard and not getting out after my ex-best friend left town to become a doctor. I should have known when Ben Cooper returned everyone would be out to get us together.

Do you have any friends or family helping you out?

My sister could move to Alabama with her daughter, but she’s chosen to stay in Kudzu Creek with me on our land so we can be a family since neither of our parents were ever there for us. I couldn’t do life without her—especially since I lost Ben’s friendship.

Do you have a regular job?

I work at Southern Fried Kudzu baking and waiting tables right in the middle of Kudzu Creek. It’s a great way to see my friends, chat with quirky regulars, and also keep tabs on who’s new in town. I’d love to have a bookstore, but it’s just a dream…

What is the funniest thing that happens to you or another character in this story?

Poor Ben. He can’t dance a step, but he’s been coerced into dancing with his daughter at her Christmas recital this year. Just watching him practice is hilarious, but he’s a good sport.

Do you have a gift or a special talent?

People tell me I’m a good listener. I like to make people feel comfortable and make sure they’re cared for—mostly because that’s something I haven’t had in my life. I’m also known for making the best fruit tarts in Kudzu Creek!

Who is the most important individual in your life?

Besides my sister, the most important person in my life is my niece, Bailey. Bailey is the daughter I’ll never have. I love taking her to school and dance class. It helps my sister out, and it give us time to bond. Once upon a time, I could count on Ben Cooper, but he chose a big city career over our hometown—and me.

What is your ideal vacation?

A tour of Europe with lots of museums and libraries!

If you could change anything about your life what would it be?

If I could change anything about my life, I’d reconsider telling Ben Cooper that I didn’t want to leave town with him all those years ago—and that we could never be more than friends!
