A shy orphan with peculiar eyes in search of his father. A mysterious vanishing. An ancient manuscript filled with strange potions. Join 12-year-old Matt Church as he plunges into a world of dark mysteries where he will face his worst nightmares and discover the truth. Self-belief, friendship, and the unbreakable bond of blood ties are at the heart of this enchanting and gripping saga. Under Central Park, The Amulet’s Secret is the first book of a trilogy. The e-book format includes over 30 full-color illustrations.

The Amulet’s Secret by D.W. Spinola has Matt Church finding his place in the world that he is just starting to see.

Will Matt like the answers he finds about who he is and what he is?

Matt Church

The main character is Matt Church, an orphan who wants his birth parents to find him again. Matt also has a stutter that makes him self-conscious around the other kids at the orphanage. He tries to get the stutter to stop and wants someone to love him. Matt finds a lot more than he bargained for when it comes to finding answers to things he has encountered. I have to say that Matt is a strong character in that, yes, he has had some loss, but he has overcome the loss and grown throughout.

The Story

Matt is just a twelve-year-old orphan who doesn’t know much about himself. He discovers that the world doesn’t look as safe as everyone thinks. Matt wants to join the brotherhood in the city that is keeping everyone safe. I have to say that Ms. Spinola has made quite an interesting turn of events in world history from what we know. Ms. Spinola definitely made me rethink the trees around us and what I truly know.

Five Stars

I am giving five stars to The Amulet’s Secret by D.W. Spinola as it is an interesting and captivating story. Ms. Spinola gifted me the book without the illustrations. I think with the illustrations, some of the creatures she describes would be scarier than my imagination, and it would be cool to see how the author saw them. Along with all of that, I am recommending wholeheartedly for anyone to try this book out as it surprised me how much I ended up liking the book.

D. W. Spinola grew up in South America and studied architecture in Germany. Growing up in Venezuela, her family endured poverty, and she used her imagination and artistic ability to escape. As a child, she loved listening to her mother’s stories of her childhood in Lanzarote, a magical volcanic island off the coast of Africa, and her father’s stories about growing up in an orphanage on the island of Java. Her children’s stories are filled with thrilling adventures, magical places, and wondrous creatures. She hopes her characters inspire children to pursue their passions, listen to their hearts, and follow their North stars.
