Private Investigator Sarah Booth Delaney and her partner Tinkie are in Sheriff Coleman Peters's office, asking Coleman about cold cases, when Elisa Redd storms in with a case her own. She wants Coleman to reopen the investigation of her missing daughter, Lydia Redd Maxell, the heiress to a large fortune who disappeared along with her friend Bethany 10 years ago, while the two of them were working as human rights organizers. Now Lydia's husband, Tope, is set to inherit the fortune, and Elisa suspects he's behind the disappearance.
Armed with a pile of mysterious notes mailed to Elisa over the years, Sarah Booth and Tinkie follow an increasingly twisty trail leading all over Sunflower County, leading them to a tree and an empty grave in the county cemetery. A grave that's said to be haunted...
Tell-Tale Bones by Carolyn Haines is a fabulously written mystery that kept me guessing.
Will Sarah Booth and Tinkie find Lydia before Trope?
This is one of my favorite series. I put them on pre-order when I hear about a new one. It makes for a beautiful day when the book arrives in the mail.
It’s January in the Delta, and Sarah Booth and Tinkie are looking for a new case. They have enjoyed some time off and are ready to move again. So, when they run into Elisa Redd at the sheriff’s department, it seems their newest case has been found.
Elisa Redd is looking for her daughter, who ran away after being beaten by her husband six years ago. This is one of those old tales that seem to repeat themselves throughout history. I was immediately drawn into the story, trying to follow all of the clues, keeping up with Jitty and her spiritual clues for Sarah Booth. This case takes them all over Mississippi, through beautiful historical towns to the abandoned countryside, left to return to nature. So many deceptions are centered around a wealthy man of privilege and his actions. I’ll say karma is going to wallop him.
Ms. Haines never fails to entertain, and she always has a lesson to be shared in her stories. Sometimes I can see how current events are affecting the story. This is one of those, and I agree with our author’s perspective.
Sunflower County Update (Spoiler)
Sarah Booth and Tinkie’s lives are happy. Maylin is healthy and thriving. Tinkie is nailing motherhood. Sarah Booth and Coleman are going strong. CeCe and Millie’s joint column for the newspaper is a big hit. They are having a blast writing it. Tammy’s family is doing well, and her daughter may be moving to town. The deputies are doing well, with one of them possibly in a relationship. Harold was even mentioned as being happy with his newest lady love.
Jitty’s Clues for Sarah Booth
Jitty takes on a macabre way of assisting Sarah Booth in this one. Tammy steps in with dreams in the same disturbing way. And Sarah Both may have a new pet raven.
Five Stars
My rating for Tell-Tale Bones by Carolyn Haines is five stars. Can you believe this is the 26th book?! I recommend this series. If you haven’t started it yet, this is a good one, to begin with. However, there are so many fabulous books in this series. Once you get started, you will want to read them all.
