The next charming mystery from Carolyn Haines featuring spunky southern private investigator Sarah Booth Delaney.
Private detective Sarah Booth Delaney doesn't quite know what to expect when she's urgently called to a school board meeting for Sunflower County, Mississippi. But she certainly wasn't expecting this: three Wiccan sisters are in the midst of a showdown with the Board of Education. They want to open a Wiccan school in Zinnia, Mississippi, and the conservative town vows to do anything necessary to stop them from opening their school. Sarah Booth and her partner in the detective agency, Tinkie Bellcase, are quickly enlisted to investigate the Wiccan sisters' real reasons for coming to town. Sarah Booth learns the sisters have rented a manor house and land from a reclusive local artist, Trevor Musgrove. But the case takes on a far more serious tone when Trevor Musgrove is found dead, and all evidence seems to point directly at the witch sisters.

Witches…good or bad? Real or Fake?

Charmed Bones by Carolyn Haines is fabulous. I truly love the mystery, intrigue, Sarah Booth, and her friends.

We start off with at a school board meeting were the Harrington sisters are speaking to the board about their boarding school that will open in fall. The citizens of Zinnia County, Mississippi are outraged that witches are moving into the Christian county.

I loved the Harrington sister witches. Hope the brunette, Faith the redhead, and Charity the blonde. All three seemed fair and were willing to help Sarah Booth and Tinkie with the investigation into the murder of Trevor Musgrove. There was definitely a defiance to them, they are going to be who they are and who they wanted to be. I have to say that I admire that.

The Delaney Detective Agency is hired by numerous people for different reasons but all revolve around the Harrington sisters. This case puts a temporary wedge between Tinkie and Sarah Booth. Coleman and Sarah Booth are having trouble finding quality alone time 😉 if you know what I mean. But don’t worry Sarah Booth will find a way.

Jitty’s Witches

Then we have Jitty (the family ghost) and she is rocking some witches in Charmed Bones. She showed us the Wicked Witch of the West, Endora, Melisandre, Morgan le Fay, Eglantine Price, Angelique, Winnie Sanderson, and Gillian Holroyd. Jitty tries to help Sarah Booth figure out what is going on but there are always rules that must be obeyed. Since she can’t tell her directly she uses characters to give Sarah Booth a clue to what is going on.

Jitty's Witches

I won’t spoil anything for you but the ending has quite a twist. One that Sarah Booth won’t likely forget in the future.

There are underlying questions to this story. Such as: How far does freedom of religion go? Who has the right to choose what is best for our children? What basics should be taught in school? and how do we get the subjects and values that we would like our children to learn back in the schools?

5 Stars for Charmed Bones by Carolyn Haines

My rating for Charmed Bones by Carolyn Haines is 5 stars. I love this series. I enjoy the mysteries and of course Sarah Booth Delaney. She and Tinkie can surely get themselves in trouble. I highly recommend this series. If you haven’t already you should check it out.
