Shadowhunters 2.1First Episode: This Guilty Blood

Premiere Date:  January 2, 2017

Episode Plot Summary:

Jace’s depature with Valentine creates upheaval in The Institute; the arrival of Victor Aldertree hampers Alec, Isabelle and Clary’s plan to rescue Jace; Jocelyn, now awake, tries to catch up on events.

My thoughts on this episode:

We start this episode by seeing a bit of what happened in the first season as a small recap. Then after that, we dive into the first episode.

A lot has happened since Jace went with his dad onto the barge. We met the new Institute director, and I don’t like him, and not a whole lot of people do.

All the characters had surprising things happen to them. Like Malec having their first, and certainly not least, fight. Isabelle is trying to be good and help Clary out. Jocelyn finding out that Jonathon is still alive and she is not happy about that even though us book fans of the series know that Jace isn’t that one. Jace is fighting within himself still about being Valentine’s son. Clary is still trying to find Jace to bring him back which didn’t happen. And Simon is still sidelined along with his feelings for Clary.

Shadowhunters 2.2Second Episode: A Door Into the Dark

Premiere Date:  January 9, 2017

Episode Plot Summary:

Alec and Isabelle act quickly to find Jace after the Clave issues a “shoot to kill” order; Simon turns to Magnus for help when he finds himself at odds with both Raphael and Aldertree; Clary struggles to figure out where she belongs.

My thoughts on this episode:

Once again we have some more season one recaps before we start after what happened with the first episode of season two. Alec tells Clary off since a lot of trouble has happened for him, Isabelle, Jace, and his parents and brother Max.

Another episode of a lot of things happening for the characters. The other shadowhunters don’t trust her since she is Valentine’s daughter and won’t let her help with anything that has to deal with Jace and she doesn’t think she belongs in either of the two worlds anymore.

Jocelyn is putting finding Jace and killing him on hold so she can get Clary back. Even though Clary doesn’t want anything to do with her mom at all, she also helps Isabelle and Alec even if Isabelle doesn’t like what Alec has to do.

Jace is still struggling to figure out who he is and how that will affect him in the long run and he doesn’t fully believe Valentine until Valentine brought Clary via Dot.

Simon has been put into a tight spot by both Aldertree and Raphael, and he doesn’t know what to do about it. He and Magnus come to an agreement of sorts about Simon’s status of being a vampire.

Shadowhunters 2.3Third Episode: Parabatai Lost

Premiere Date:  January 16, 2017

Episode Plot Summary:

Jace’s situation worsens when he becomes a target for the New York wolf pack, who believes that he is a killer; Raphael pressures Simon to find Camille.

My take on this episode:

This is the first episode with recaps from this season. It picks up the next day after Clary and Jace jumped off the barge and into the ocean.

Immediately after that Jace is on the run from four groups. The Clave, Luke’s pack, the police, and of course Valentine’s people. Each group because of something that he has upset them. Of course during all of this Alec is still not doing well and that is also with why Isabelle is also after Jace because he is the only one that can help Alec.

Clary and her problems are put on the back burner during this episode.

Raphael is going after Simon to get Camille since he is one of Camille’s only sires that haven’t joined her into taking down Raphael. Raphael has hit below low the belt as he went after Simon’s family.

Shadowhunters 2.4Fourth Episode: Day of Wrath

Premiere Date:  January 23, 2017

Episode Plot Summary:

Jace awaits his fate in the City of Bones; Clary, Alec, and Isabelle hunt a powerful demon terrorizing the Institute; Jocelyn has a proposition for Clary as Raphael and Simon ramp up their search for Camille.

My take on this episode:

Well, this episode was different than what I thought it was going to be. It’s still a good episode though and one I guess that had to happen for other characters to go a different route.

A lot has happened in this one. Especially for poor Jace who is in the City of Bones because of what his dad made him do with the help of a spellbound Clary to get him to do it. Unknowingly to Jace that this might have been a part of his father’s plan all along to get the sword.

A demon has been let loose, and it’s all bad news for our Shadowhunter friends especially Clary once they figure out what it’s doing. After this episode, I certainly believe that Valentine should be punished for the pain he caused everyone especially his daughter.

This episode has deferred from the books a bit, but that might have been done intentionally for this episode since technically it has for the character’s ages and for overall so far of this season.

There were twists and turns that have left me wondering if this is how Clary and Simon get together is through with what happened in this episode? Guess I will find out in the next episode.

Shadowhunters 2.5Fifth Episode: Dust and Shadows

Premiere Date:  January 30, 2017

Episode Plot Summary:

Each of the Shadowhunters deals with the recent attack on the Institute in their own way; Simon moves home, but finds it isn’t easy to pull off his new life with his family around.

My take on this episode:

All of the Shadowhunters are taking the deaths of the fallen Shadowhunters terribly. Well, just Alec and Clary mostly. We found out that it is possible to bring back the dead but it isn’t always a good thing to do because of the complications by bringing something back from the dead could cause for that person or animal.

Except Clary doesn’t listen and is now in deep trouble with the one warlock, she was visiting and made a deal with to bring her mother back from the dead. Jace warned her and is not very happy that she went to see a warlock to bring a person back from the dead. They also find out something new about Clary, but they don’t want to tell anyone just yet because they don’t know how she has this ability or if it’s even a good thing to have. Having Valentine as their father has made them both worry about what this means.

Izzy is still dealing with a wound from a demon attack and doesn’t know what to do since she wants to go on missions without having to worry about not being able to use that one side. Aldertree gave her medicine to help since she wants to see the Iron Sisters on an assignment to see if they can stop Valentine. Except now she might be a druggie because of how addictive the medicine is which Aldertree did warn her about.

Shadowhunters 2.6Sixth Episode: Iron Sisters

Premiere Date:  February 6, 2017

Episode Plot Summary:

To get answers about Valentine’s plan, Isabelle and Clary are sent to visit the Iron Sisters; Simon and Maia are determined to find the still missing Luke; Magnus and Alec go on their first date.

My take on this episode:

The recap during this one was of the last two episodes of Shadowhunters. Victor Aldertree doesn’t trust either Clary or Jace because of them being Valentine’s children even if he really shouldn’t worry, but he believes Isabelle to keep an eye on Clary while he makes sure to keep Jace from doing much.

Isabelle is super excited about being able to see the Iron Sisters, especially with Clary since they need help with finding out about Valentine’s plans. Isabelle though can’t do much because of what Aldertree is giving her for medicine, that has something in it that makes it so she can’t enter, because of a test that no one knew about them needing to take. Clary passes the test, and she finds out from Luke’s sister what Valentine’s plan is. She asks Luke’s sister about what she can do and if it was her mom. Luke’s sister told her that it couldn’t be Jocelyn since the afterlife for shadowhunters is weird.

Simon and Maia go looking for Luke at a campsite that Simon remembered Luke taking him, Clary, and Jocelyn when they were younger. The two of them can get to Luke and get him not to kill a couple since he misses Jocelyn badly. Simon and Maia can get him to turn and return to New York with them. Maia can see that Simon like Clary and doesn’t know what to think about that since she also likes Simon.

Magnus and Alec’s first date didn’t go as planned for either of them as they started to talk about how many exes they had which freaked out Alec. They were going to break up, but Alec decided not to since he wanted to see how this would go especially since Magnus is his first relationship ever. They were kissing when Jace came over and moved in with Magnus since he needed somewhere to stay.

Aldertree was making Jace’s life hell, and he didn’t want that or anyone to see him saying no to trusting the Clave and serving them. Aldertree doesn’t trust Jace, and this was his revenge for Jace disobeying an order that he gave him in the City of Bones.

Shadowhunters 2.7Seventh Episode: How Are Thou Fallen

Premiere Date:  February 13, 2017

Episode Plot Summary:

Clary and Luke find themselves at odd over Cleo, who claims innocence about the recent attack; Simon gets dating advice from a surprising source as Isabelle takes a dangerous path.

My take on this episode:

We had a short recap for the beginning of this one episode. Luke is dismayed about his sister leaving the Iron Sisters after hearing from Clary that she was there and about the attack. Clary is letting Cleo think that she is on her side of this about going to fight Valentine until she and Luke get into the kitchen and Luke is about to tell her that it’s a trap when Clary tells him that she knows that and that they can trick Cleo and get the sword back.

During all of this episode, at times, Clary would be hearing a screaming noise and not know where it was coming from. Let alone with why she was the only one to hear it.

Isabelle is addicted to the painkiller that Aldertree has been giving her and needed more of it. And id going to extreme measures to get it. Including going straight to the source to be getting it.

Alec and Magnus go to the next step in their relationship. Despite Jace, it is annoying them both to no end at the beginning of the episode.

Simon at first gets dating advice from Jace, and it doesn’t work for him since he isn’t good at being like Jace. He then gets dating advice from Maia and is okay with that. Even if he doesn’t know with how Clary feels about him and even if Maia gives him advice that she wishes he never took.

Jace and Clary free an angel being held captive by Valentine and see something strange in a vision while Luke loses Valentine and his sister.

Shadowhunters 2.9Eighth Episode: Love is a Devil

Premiere Date:  February 20, 2017

Episode Plot Summary:

Tasked with arranging his brother Max’s Rune Ceremony, Alec grabs the opportunity for his family to get to know Magnus; with tensions flying, Max’s big event quickly becomes an evening where they all must face their biggest fears.

My take on this episode:

Izzy is still dealing with being addicted to vampire venom and isn’t shown all that much in this episode at all. Izzy was, of course, pestering Alec like any normal sister would do when Max comes running up to them and tells them about him completing all his stuff to be able to have his rune ceremony. Izzy isn’t happy with their mom and leaves.

Alec tells Magnus about his idea of letting him throw a party for Max on this special occasion of getting runes. Magnus is worried that it won’t be a good idea with how his mom doesn’t like the idea of Magnus and Alec dating. Alec is still able to convince him, and he throws a good party.

Clary and Simon are together in this episode, and I’m still not sure what to think about that. I mean I like Clary and Simon together as friends and not boyfriend and girlfriend.

Once basically everyone is there at the party the first one to be affected by seeing their biggest fears is Clary with seeing Simon flirting with Maia who is there as a bartender. Then after that, it all goes downhill as each one is affected that is at the party besides Izzy, Magnus, their mom, and Max.

Magnus wasn’t happy about having an intruder in his penthouse and sends Iris to Idris to deal with the Clave about what she’s been doing for Valentine in this episode.

Shadowhunters 2.9Ninth Episode: Bound by Blood

Premiere Date:  February 6, 2017

Episode Plot Summary:

When Iris activates her blood oath, Clary has more to worry about than hiding from Valentine and the Downworlders; Isabelle and Raphael get closer; Alec tries to figure out what’s happening with his sister.

My take on this episode:

This episode is a day after, I believe, of the last episode and there is some recap but not by much.

Clary and Simon were getting a little steamy in his canoe near the Jade Wolf’s restaurant when Jace interrupted them because he and Clary were needed at the Institute. It was around that time that Clary’s hand started to turn black and the four of them went to get help from Magnus. He can’t do anything about it only Clary can before the blood oath reaches her heart.

Clary is also dealing with a super protective older brother Jace who doesn’t want her to die and a protective boyfriend that also doesn’t want her to die but also doesn’t want to have to kill her either so that she can’t be used by Valentine or be killed by any other Downworlder.

Isabelle has been hanging out at Raphael’s place to get her vampire venom without having to travel far to get it. Magnus finds out where Isabelle is at a Downworlder meeting between Raphael, himself, Luke, and the Seelie’s. With where the Seelie told Raphael’s secret because he could smell Izzy’s scent on Raphael. Magnus then tells Alec who goes to try and get Isabelle back. She isn’t happy about that and tells him off.

Clary ends up spending time with Simon as the blood oath is getting stronger while Jace is trying to find Iris’s goddaughter. Jace finds her and takes her back to Clary. Once Clary is with the little warlock everything seems to be good but then apparently Valentine has corrupted the little girl, and the two of them went off to be with Valentine.

Clary ends up getting saved by Simon, Jace, and Luke.

Shadowhunters 2.10Tenth Episode: By the Light of Dawn

Premiere Date:  March 6, 2017

Episode Plot Summary:

The New York Institute is attacked as Valentine’s plan for the Soul Sword grows close to fruition; the Shadowhunters race to save their loved ones and the rest of the Downworld; some of the Downworlders target Clary in their plan to stop Valentine.

My take on this episode:

This episode is pretty good, and a lot has happened in this one.

Valentine has been using the little warlock and has decided to attack the institute once most of the shadowhunters are gone to find Valentine and the little warlock got most of the shadowhunters but saved Alec because he was nice to her when they first met when he went there with Clary to bring her mom back from the dead.

Jace and Luke both try to get Clary to see that going after Valentine (who has Simon) isn’t a good thing. Jace, Clary, Luke, and Magnus come up with a plan and go off to the institute to try and save Simon and try not to get Clary caught and have her touch the sword. Luke with his pack and Raphael with the vampires are out front waiting for the right time to go in and help the shadowhunters defeat Valentine.

Things go as planned, and Jace learns a lot more about himself in this episode toward the end. Simon can do something that he has never been able to do.
