Mara is a Legend, born with unmatched power. More than that, she is a Shadow: ruthless, feared, and lethal. But all of that changed when she became Kate and fell in love with a perfectly human life and the Legend that showed her how to live it: Kylan. After battling the Shadows and uncovering the memories they stole, she was free. Free to be with Kylan, his family, and the Rogue life they had chosen.
When a new human is brought into their lives, everything unravels. The family she has grown to love is thrown into chaos. Kate can’t save any of them. But Mara can.
As Mara steps back into her previous life as a Shadow, it fits a little too well. The longer she walks with danger, the more she sees in common with the Shadows she left than the Rogue she was pretending to be.
When her two worlds collide, Mara should be faced with a choice. But a greater evil awaits her, one with the power to shatter both worlds.
Shadow Unbound by Angie Day is another terrific book by Ms. Day. It felt like a friendly, warm hug going back to these characters even though that isn’t what they are handing out.
Will Kate/Mara be able to stop the evil person waiting for her?
Kate/Mara
Kate/Mara is the main character and point of view character. Mara is her first and isn’t a nice person, thanks to the Shadows. Kate is a lovely person, and the last personality change that she is living since she wants to be good. Both sides of her are so totally different from each other that it is great to see how she doesn’t want that life anymore and wants to be good along with living among humans. I didn’t find anything that I dislike about her.
Kylan
Kylan is Kate’s love interest and the whole reason why she wants to change. He is such a great character and doesn’t try to hide that he has had a bad life before even though he doesn’t want to talk about the way he lived before becoming good. Kylan is someone that I admire at times even more in here despite what he did.
Alec
Alec used to be Mara’s whole world. That is until Kate/Mara met Kylan, and not even Mara wants Alec all that much. Alec continues to be a jerk about a lot of the things that he does in this story. I can’t say much about him but know I strongly dislike this character even though I love that Ms. Day can do that so well. Granted, we never see within his point of view, which is a great thing. I think his point of view would make me hurl.
Five Stars
Shadow Unbound by Angie Day is excellent. I loved reading every moment of it. I felt so bad for Kate. No more hurting the poor girl. Then again, that’s not going to happen anytime soon, probably. Ms. Day is a fantastic author and makes me hope that the next book is in the works. Kate/Mara is such an excellent character, and so is Kylan and Alec. I am giving this book five stars and recommending it to all of the new adult fantasy readers out there.
