For whom the bell tolls . . .
The O’Sullivan clan of County Cork, Ireland, are thrilled to be catering the matrimonial affairs of a celebrity couple—until a cunning killer turns an Irish wedding into an Irish wake . . .
Any wedding is a big deal in the small village of Kilbane—even more so when the bride is a famous fashion model. Siobhán O’Sullivan and her five siblings have a full plate catering for the three-day affair. But when the best man is found murdered in the woods, his replacement, Siobhán’s own beau, local garda Macdara Flannery, is suddenly the best suspect. Like the bride walking down the aisle, Siobhán needs to watch her step. For as she gets closer to unveiling the truth, the murderer is planning a very chilly reception for her . . .
Murder at an Irish Wedding by Carlene O’Connor is a fascinating tale of secrets and greed.
Will Siobhan clear Macdara’s name and locate the true culprit?
There is a wedding in Kilbane. Macdara’s best mate, Paul Donnelly, is the groom and is marrying a wealthy supermodel, Alice Cahill. Everything has been set up, and they are having it at the castle. Siobhan is catering some of the meals at Naoimi’s Bistro, and the French chef at the castle handles the rest. However, this wedding seems to be cursed. A groomsman is killed, the bride’s father is trying to stop the marriage at all costs, the bride is a mess, there are numerous secrets, and the wedding party is suspected of killing the groomsman. Yes, that means Macdara too.
Oh, and Macdara invited his mom to the wedding instead of Siobhan. I think that really caught her off guard.
Siobhan O’Sullivan
Siobhan has to make some significant decisions in this installment besides meeting Mrs. Flannery and solving a murder. She needs to decide what to do with the rest of her life. Her older brother and Macdara have supplied her with many online college catalogs, but she hasn’t even flipped through them. The thing is, Siobhan isn’t like the other girls in the village. She has a talent for seeing things that others don’t want to be seen.
I like that Siobhan is true to herself. Look for my favorite part with small soaps when the bride is getting ready and how Siobhan treats her sister. Siobhan is very true to her family. They are great together.
The investigation is a bit crazy. It’s like everyone wants to talk to Siobhan and not the police. I get that, but they can be very demanding when it comes down to it. And then there is the way the police are treating her, by threatening to lock her up for assisting them. Yet, in the end, it is her that finds whodunit.
Four Stars
It took me a bit to get into this one, but once I did, it seems to have flown by so fast I was surprised I was reading the epilogue. I didn’t catch the killer myself, but once the confession was out, I could see how all the clues lined up. Well played, Ms. O’Connor.
My rating for Murder at an Irish Wedding by Carlene O’Connor is four stars. I recommend it to all you cozy readers out there.
