My Rating:
My Thoughts:
The newest Morning Show Mysteries movie. I have to say the new detective Tyrell played by Colin Lawrence is a great addition to the cast. Tyrell is the new detective taking over for Rick Fox’s Ian Jackson and I have to say that I like Tyrell better than Ian both as a cop and as Billie’s love interest. Speaking of that I love the chemistry between these two from the very beginning when they first met each other to the end of this movie.
Billie Blessings played by Holly Robinson Peete is a bit better than the last movie. The one thing that I have to say though is that Billie Blessings isn’t a sleuth she’s still just a busybody. Billie doesn’t really sleuth or anything like that she just happens into possible clues throughout the entire movie. I did like that she isn’t splitting her time between being a host on the morning show and her restaurant but I’m still iffy on her being a part of the news team as a reporter.
Another character I did like is Wally. I thought that he was cool and his connection with Billie and her father is interesting. Not only that but having Wally there also helped lean into being at the police station a bit more since I don’t remember that happening much in the past.
A character that I didn’t care for is Carlos the new reporter for the morning show. Carlos rubbed me the wrong way, especially how he used Billie’s connections but basically made Billie work with him to get the story done. He is making it harder for Tyrell to really trust Billie and maybe just maybe then if that does happen that maybe Billie might actually start sleuthing.
I also like the way Aunt Cassandra played by Karen Robinson is involved in the storyline. She tries to keep Billie out of trouble but it doesn’t always work.
The mystery was pretty good even though my family and I solved it by the middle of the movie. I feel like they really need to work on Billie’s character. She just doesn’t seem completely formed as a sleuth. Perhaps the writers could take a look at some of the cozy mystery book series to get a better idea of the blueprint of a cozy mystery. Or they could speak with Pheof Sutton or Lee Goldberg.
