Interview with Bobbie Brooks

How did you and your author meet?

First – thank you for having me here today! I’m excited to let everyone know a little bit about me.

We both love to take photos. Kara thought it would be cool to be part of a camera club, but didn’t want to be in charge, so she joined mine.

Why did this writer decide to feature you in a book?

Honestly, I think Kara wanted to live vicariously through another photographer’s life. And—she’s a big chicken. She sets up all these murders to be solved, but she makes me do all the scary stuff.

Do you have any friends or family helping you out?

For sure. I couldn’t do any of it without my camera club or my brother-in-law, Nate.

Do you have a regular job and investigate on the side or are you a full time detective?

Oh no, I never meant to be a detective. No way, no how. I’m a photographer, for heaven’s sake. The sleuthing bit—that just kind of happens.

What is the funniest thing that happens to you or another character in this story?

Ha! This is one of those “you’ll think it’s funny someday” situations. At the time, it was downright scary. It all started innocently enough. Rose and I decided we needed a better look at the victim’s garden. You know how it goes: answering one question leads to more. Before we knew it, we were inside the victim’s house. Let me preface this part by saying the door was unlocked, and no one was home—until our number-one suspect walked in. We scrambled to hide in an extremely small space beneath the desk, where I bumped my head more than once, and my friend Rose pinched me—hard, I might add—to shush me. No sooner had we gotten ourselves out of our mess than Rose declared it was the most fun she’d had in ages. Seriously… But yeah, it’s kind of funny now.

Have you solved other cases or is this your first one?

This was my second case. And honestly, I didn’t want to get involved. When one of the members of my camera club asked me to help out, my first instinct was to say, “no way.” But I guess I can’t help myself.

Do you have a gift or special talent?

Not really. I’m just tenacious.

Who is the most important individual in your life?

My daughter, Emma. No question.

What is your ideal vacation?

Vacation? My favorite vacation used to be coming to Vermont to stay at my sister’s farm and decompress. Now, I think I’d like to go somewhere like Paris or Rome where I can wander about with my camera—and eat good food.

If you could change anything about your life what would it be?

The last couple of years have been rough. After my husband Dan died, I thought I’d never enjoy life again. I still miss him, but I’m in a good place now. I think I’ll just let life take its course. Who knows what might happen?
