Summary:
When an app developer accepts a marriage proposal, she takes a trip to her Florida hometown to break the news to her estranged father. There, as she reconnects with her dad, she happens upon her ex-boyfriend. While they work together to restore her dad’s financially struggling lodge and she falls in love with the seaside town, romantic feelings resurface. But when her perfect-on-paper fiancé unexpectedly shows up and a lucrative deal with a high-profile investment firm beckons her to return to the city, the app inventor finds herself at a crossroads, wondering which direction her life should take.
My Rating:
My Thoughts:
Love in the Sun is a cute movie that I thought was outstanding. I loved the little intro of Alana and Kai kayaking in the Gulf before her leaving for Chicago to go to school at 18. Fast forward ten years later, and a lot of things have changed.
Alana is the CEO and creator of a dating app called Closer that she made after a breakup with Kai. What I liked about her was that:
- Alana is a confident woman who has an idea of what she wants in life,
- she is a romantic at heart,
- Alana is smart and writes code for her dating app.
However, Alana doesn’t follow her heart. When she realizes that compatibility isn’t everything in a relationship, she thinks that her app is wrong and wants to fix it so that it can do more than just finding harmony with someone near you.
Kai is Alana’s childhood friend and high school sweetheart. He is a great guy and didn’t stop loving Alana, even after their split years ago. However, Kai loves being in Florida, so he helps Alana to see that she misses it. He is doing well in Florida and wants Alana to stay in Florida, but in the end, he would move to Chicago if that is what he had to do.
Being back home helped Alana find herself again. I’m happy with the way that this movie turned out. It is a fantastic one for Emeraude Toubia to come onboard with the Hallmark Channel family.
