Summary:

Sous-chef Gabby opens a restaurant, and must contend with former high school baseball hero Caleb, the competitive owner of a popular eatery. A star in culinary school, Gabby is undaunted until opening night, when her restaurant has few customers due to Caleb’s wings promotion. Deciding to enter the Taste of Summer to win $10,000 and stellar reviews, Gabby is stunned when Caleb enters a similar dish, but heartened when he helps after her sous-chef burns himself. With the contest winner still unnamed, there’s lots of competitiveness in the air, but now it’s mixed with a hint of romance.

My Rating:

four-stars

My Thoughts:

All I have to say first is don’t watch this movie on an empty stomach. It will make you want a lot of food.

Roselyn Sanchez is our main character, Gabby, and I loved her in this role. Gabby is a brilliant character who wants to do great under her chef but also wants to do something else with her life. She gets that chance when she goes to visit her sister and family to clear her head. Gabby ends up buying a restaurant and is trying to make it despite butting heads with another restauranter. The two of them become instant competitors.

Eric Winter plays Caleb, and he is the love interest of Gabby. He is a single dad, softball coach, and co-owner of Delaney’s with his younger brother. Caleb has a competitive streak that comes out a lot around Gabby, which is pretty funny. These two are great for each other, and I’m glad that this real-life husband and wife duo got to play these two awesome characters.

One of my favorite scenes is when Gabby has decided to lease the building for her restaurant that she enters into a competition with Caleb to see how long she lasts. That is a funny scene to watch.

Another of my favorite scenes is when Caleb and his daughter, Emily, are baking a cheese souffle together. All because Gabby said that her’s were excellent. This scene since shows Caleb teaching her daughter something and building those memories with her. So adorable.

Then there is the scene when Gabby and her sister are looking at a photo album of Gabby’s mom that she comes up with the name for her restaurant. It’s a lovely moment, especially since Gabby decided to name her restaurant after her mom, Grace, who got her into cooking.
