A young ruler must forge a delicate alliance with the untrustworthy yet magnetic God of War to protect her kingdom in this stunning romantic fantasy inspired by Chinese mythology, filled with dangerous secrets, forbidden magic, and passion, from Sue Lynn Tan, bestselling author of Daughter of the Moon Goddess
The young heir to a mortal crown, Liyen ascends a precarious throne when her grandfather dies, vowing to end her kingdom’s obligation to the immortals and take vengeance against those she feels responsible for his death. When she is summoned to the Immortal Realm, she seizes the opportunity to learn their secrets and to form a tenuous alliance to safeguard her people, all with the one she should fear and mistrust the most: the ruthless God of War. In a dangerous enemies-to-lovers romance, they are drawn together as a treacherous attraction ignites between them—one she has to resist, to not endanger all she is fighting for.
But with darker forces closing in around them, and her kingdom plunged into peril, Liyen must risk everything to save her people from an unspeakable fate in this epic tale of gods and mortals, even if it means forging a dangerous bond with the immortal… even if it means losing her heart.
One mortal queen. One immortal God of War. A dangerous alliance that could save her kingdom—or cost her everything.
Immortal by Sue Lynn Tan is about a young girl taking over the rule of her land, dealing not only with her own people despising her but also with the immortals.
Can Liyen get the immortals to give up Tianxia?
Liyen
Liyen is having to deal with her grief from losing her grandfather and then taking over the ruling of their people. She’s a young girl who is getting the court people to see her in a different light. I like how Liyen cares a lot about her people and wants what is best for them. Liyen is a great character.
God of War
The god of war is a complex character. He puts on a mask when he gets into the impersonation of the god of war. I like him even though we only see him through Liyen’s eyes, but it’s through her eyes that we see how just and complex a character he is, even if his reasons are a bit flawed, but done with good intentions.
The Story
Liyen’s grandfather gives her the enchanted lotus to help heal her from her poisoning, rather than give it to the immortals, because he didn’t want to lose his only living relative. She is then trying her best to give her people the life that they deserve while being a good ruler. This story is great and very complex, with many spoilers I won’t reveal. I was gasping the entire time that I was reading. I did enjoy the love story between Liyen and the god of war, though.
Four Stars
My rating for Immortal by Sue Lynn Tan is four stars, and I am definitely recommending it. I love Ms. Tan’s writing style and how she made the story feel like part of the Celestial Realm series without really being part of it. Ms. Tan is a great author, and going into her stories is a great time that I enjoy.

Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of Immortal by Sue Lynn Tan.
