I Swapped Dad for a Robot
When presented with the opportunity to swap his dad for a state-of-the-art robot, Sam Smart doesn't hesitate for a moment.

His fateful decision creates a firestorm that will test him to his limits and make him question everything he once believed.

Sam must face the robot's fabulously wealthy and mysterious creator, Professor Bruxo Greathouse, to correct his mistake.

It's a battle Sam can't hope to win unless he is prepared to do the one thing he promised never to repeat...an action from which there can be no going back.

I Swapped Dad for a Robot by John Magee has Sam Smart regretting his not-so-smart choice of replacing his dad.

Can Sam Smart get his dad back?

Sam Smart

The main character is Sam Smart, and he doesn’t do a wise thing. Sam starts as a spoiled kid who doesn’t realize he has a great life with him and his dad. He ends up having to grow up faster than his twelve-year-old self wanted to as he progresses through the story. Sam did a lot of growth through the book, and I’m glad he did. He gets a lot of courage from his friends to stand up for what is right.

The Robot

The Robot’s name is Maximilian. Maximilian is a great task masker, and is doing a great job of getting Sam whipped into shape. Well, until Max basically controls every aspect of Sam’s life. I can’t say much about the Robot as I feel like most of it is significant plot points. Let’s say I feel bad for Sam about what the Robot is doing to him. But Sam’s actions turned into consequences.

Four Stars

I am rating I Swapped Dad for a Robot by John Magee with four stars and recommending people to give it a try. Mr. Magee does a great job of making everything believable. I was just left with some more questions than answers.

About John MaGee

John MaGee

John lives in a small town called Omagh in northwest Ireland with his wife and two sons. His writing began when he was invited to speak to schoolchildren at a local primary school about the many cultures, he encountered traveling the world as a business consultant.

John discovered his audience preferred humour above all else and that making children laugh and use their imagination was what he wanted to do going forward.

So began his journey of creating middle-grade stories that enable children to escape into a world of fun.

John believes his approach to writing can be summed up by the phrase, “A Day without laughter is a day wasted.”
