My Thoughts:

Mum’s the Word is the first Flower Shop Mystery movie, and I have to say that I like this series a lot. Granted, like any story or movie that includes a good mystery, I have the things I like about it and some things that I don’t like about it.

Brooke Shields is our protagonist, sleuth Abby Knight and I think it works well to have her as the lawyer turned florist. Ms. Shields does a fantastic job. I love her daughter and the mother/daughter chemistry and relationship with Sydney Knight portrayed by Celeste Desjardins. They do a great job of making it seem like they are an actual mom and daughter duo.

Brennan Elliott as Marco Salvare is a good choice as I do happen to think that Brennan is a wonderful actor. For a love interest for Brooke Shields, not so much. It’s the height thing for me, and it’s very obvious when they are trying to keep them in the same frame shot, like when they have Abby sitting down around Marco instead of standing. Other than that, Mr. Elliott does a great job as Marco Salvare, and I could see the chemistry between the characters. I wonder why Hallmark chose Brennan when they have so many tall actors that would have paired nicely with Brooke.

I loved the setting, the mystery, and the characters. Everything about it is excellent, especially Abby’s relationship with Nikki. Nikki works at the florist shop. The two are hilarious. It is set in Illinois, which is awesome; even though it didn’t look anything like Illinois, it was still great. The mystery had me guessing all around. I still think that a red herring was tied in with the murder suspect, but I am wrong on that front. All of the characters are great, even Abby’s dad, who shows up every once in a while to have dinner with Abby.
