Finally, life is good for reluctant family law attorney, Jamie Quinn--her father may get his visa soon, her boyfriend is the bomb, and her law practice is growing like crazy--but when she agrees to take on a high-profile divorce case, everything falls apart. What looked like an opportunity to work with her friend Grace and make some serious bucks has turned into a deadly game, one that could destroy their friendship and tear their town apart. Why couldn't Jamie just leave well enough alone?
A simple divorce. What more could a person ask for?
Engaged in Danger by Barbara Venkataraman is a quick cozy mystery with a touch of intrigue and bits of law.
Jamie Quinn
Jamie is a family law attorney, who trouble finds easily. She has her own quiet life that continually is interrupted by trouble. Jamie likes to do what has to be done and then hang out at home. However, she is regularly getting drawn into these cases that lead to her putting herself in harm’s way. She also seems to figure out what it is going on before the actual police. In her dense, she does try to keep the police involved, and she seriously doesn’t go looking for the crazies. Some of them just knock on her office door.
Jamie at times procrastinates, but she gets the job done. Here is a quote regarding her character.
Of course, when the work piles up, which happens fairly often, I have no one to blame but myself. Being the boss and sole employee can be awkward at times, like when I order myself to get to work and then tell myself to go to hell, but what can I say? I’m the worst employee ever.

The Client
Jamie’s client in this book is another attorney’s wife who wants to divorce her cheating husband. Nan Glasser seems like a sheltered, wealthy wife, which she is. However, she has spunk, and she is really tired of her husband and his antics.
“Someone is trying to kill my husband, but I don’t care anymore. I just want a divorce.”

Jamie’s Friends
In this installment, Jamie’s fiancée Kip is heading off to Australia to save wombats for three months. She is not happy about it, but she knows she loves him and this will make him happy.
Jamie’s best friend is Grace, an attorney at a big law firm. Grace and Jamie go up against one of the most popular attorneys in their town of Hollywood, Florida. Jamie and Grace also get into an argument about Grace’s choice in boyfriends. So, Jamie isn’t talking to Grace much in this book. I like Grace but agree that her track record with boyfriends isn’t always the best. Watch for the cookie basket incident.
Since Jamie’s two closest friends are otherwise busy and not available, Jamie turns to Duke a private investigator to assist her with finding the clues she needs to help her client and her neighbor. Duke makes a major oops in this book; you won’t get the dirt from me though. You will have to read the book.

My rating for Engaged in Danger by Barbara Venkataraman is four stars. The mystery was good, and the drama was funny. Jamie and her friends keep us guessing.
