He’s sworn to uphold the law. Her life is riddled with closely guarded secrets. When the past catches up to her, will she rush to him or run away?

When he’s not evading grabby-handed octogenarians, mentoring troubled teens, or rescuing rascally youngsters from disaster, Deputy Knox Strickland can be found upholding the law in the eastern Oregon region he patrols. He avoids making plans for tomorrow, focusing instead on doing his best today. Then one chance encounter with a beautiful woman in a wheat field turns his world upside down. Knox is left questioning what secrets she’s hiding, and how hard he’ll have to work to scale the fortress she's built around her heart.

Zadie Redmond isn’t like most women. A life spent looking over her shoulder has destroyed the promising future she’d once envisioned. Her days are spent leading hunting and fishing adventures, or teaching tiny ballerinas the proper way to plié. She fills her evenings with do-it-yourself projects while worrying about the day her past catches up with her. In an unexpected moment, the local deputy swoops into her world like a storybook hero and she knows nothing will ever be the same. Zadie will do anything to keep Knox safe from the danger lurking in the shadows, even if it destroys her chance at love.

Will Knox convince Zadie she can trust him with her secrets and her heart?

A sweet romance full of quirky small-town fun, Distracting the Deputy is a story of hope, help, and hanging on to what matters most.

Distracting the Deputy by Shanna Hatfield brings us back to Summer Creek, Oregon, for another wonderfully inspiring romance.

Will Knox break through the walls Zadie has around her heart?

Deputy Knox Strickland

Knox isn’t just the good-looking boy next door, local deputy; he also has a huge heart. He stretches himself really thin to help those in his community. In fact, he pretty much does anything that is needed to assist Summer Creek.

I really enjoyed getting to know Knox better. His backstory is filled with things that I wasn’t expecting, but I can see how those events helped shape who he is now. Knox is someone that I can see myself being friends with. Heck, I have a couple of young ladies I’d like to set him up on a blind date with. Well, before he realized Zadie was for him.

Zadie Redmond

Zadie is a superwoman. She is an outdoor guide for fishing, hunting, camping, birdwatching, cross country skiing, and she does most of the office work for the guide business; she can cook, bake, and remodel any room in your house on a small budget. You know she could be on HGTV, hosting her own show. Another thing is Zadie is a ballerina. Seriously, that girl can dance. The one bad thing about Zadie is she doesn’t allow anyone to get close to her. No one in Summer Creek knows much about her past or family, but they all still love her.

Zadie has been one of my favorite characters, and I love the way she handles Knox. She has one of those crazy backgrounds too. I wouldn’t have expected that any of that happened to her. She has done such a fabulous job of easing her past.

Honestly, Knox and Zadie are so good together. I can’t wait until they have little ones running around chasing after Cricket.

Distracting the Deputy CRSummer Creek Update

Emery is working hard to help Summer Creek thrive, and it really shows. Her dad has rehabbed the old hotel, and they have lots of events happening and people from all over coming to join in the festivities. Jossy and Nate have some exciting news. Parker and Poppy got the lumber baron’s mansion remodeled, and they are so happy. Everything is coming together.

Who will be the heroine of the next installment? I am hoping for Dani; Seth needs a father figure. However, Tassie also needs someone to brighten up her life.

Five Stars

I love this little town of Summer Creek. The people are such characters, and then there is Ethel. Ethel seems to be on her best behavior, but I am sure that could change at any minute. One of the things that Ms. Hatfield does is mix her series up, making one cohesive world. I love how the local feed store is now owned by Sinclair’s (from her Rodeo Romance Series).

My rating for Distracting the Deputy by Shanna Hatfield is five stars. I highly recommend this book or really any of Ms. Hatfield’s books. She has a way with Western Romances.

About Summer Creek

Summer Creek

Summer Creek is one of those small towns—the kind brimming with quirky inhabitants, pets with personalities (like a meandering goat named Ethel), meddling matchmakers, tumbling-down old buildings, and dreams. So many dreams. These sweet, uplifting romances explore the ties that bind a community together when they unite for a common purpose and open their hearts to unexpected possibilities. Heart, humor, and hope weave through each story, touching the lives of those who call Summer Creek home.

Readers who love Debbie Macomber’s Cedar Cove series and RaeAnne Thayne’s Haven Point series will enjoy coming home to Summer Creek.
