Welcome to Leavensport, OH, where DEATH takes a DELICIOUS turn!
"NO! He's not the father. You're all wrong! The father is . . ."
Everyone at the festival stood with their mouths hanging open as Lydia, who went into labor on Labor Day, revealed the identity of the baby's father.
Autumn is beautiful in Leavensport, Ohio, with the colorful leaves and that crisp bit of coolness that dissipates the humid air that blankets the village each summer-but there is a dark cloud when a merchant from Tri-City is killed at the Leavensport Fall Festival.
Suburbanites clash with villagers, an MS flare-up puts Detective Meiser in a wheelchair, two couples announce their engagement, and someone is poisoned! This Labor Day weekend will do more than honor the laborers of Leavensport and Tri-City-it will pit them against one another to find a killer.
Deep Dish Pizza Disaster by Jodi Rath has Jolie and Ava investigating a lot of mysteries while Jolie is dealing with a cranky Mick Meiser.
Who killed Ralph, the pizza guy?
Jolie and Ava
Jolie Tucker may not want to be a PI with Ava. However, she is helping her out with more and more cases as things continue. It also doesn’t help that Ava can’t say no. However, she might have to with her impending nuptials and upcoming holidays. Jolie seems like she still has some growing up to do despite being a woman in her twenties. I can’t help but see her being a bit childish in some of the things she does in her stories. Jolie should probably take some time to work through her issues before fully committing herself to Mick and their relationship. I still miss Jolie’s straight hair!
Ava Martinez is not only Jolie’s best friend, but they co-own Cast Iron Creations together, and Ava runs a PI business now that she is trying to trap Jolie into doing with her. I know this means that this story isn’t technically a cozy mystery anymore. I’m still unsure how well I like Ava, even all of these stories later.
Between these two characters and other characters in the story, I feel like Ms. Rath has bitten off more than she can chew in terms of pleasing everyone.
The Mysteries
Jolie, Ava, and Mick are investigating a whole lot of mysteries in this one. We have the main one who killed Ralph, the pizza guy. Next is who is the father of Lydia’s baby, and of course, several others that have started to interconnect with her other mysteries. The big theme I see is the mafia being connected to everything. I have to say that I did get who did it right away, and I guessed on the baby’s father.
Three Stars
Deep Dish Pizza Disaster by Jodi Rath isn’t one of my favorites from this author in this series. I am recommending this series to anyone. Deep Dish Pizza Disaster by Jodi Rath is getting three stars as a rating.
Of course, we have recipes in the back of the book. The recipes are: Cast Iron Skillet Deep Dish Pizza (which we never read being made just mentioned), Poblano Stuffed Pepper, Fried Chicken with Wilted Bok Choy, Wilted Bok Choy, S’More Dessert, Carlos’ Heavens to Murgatroyd Cast Iron Queso, and Carlos’ Zoinks! Tex Mex Skillet Pie.

It’s a shame the story isn’t great cuz I like the idea of a cast iron culinary series. I haven’t heard anything about this series before so thanks for putting it on my radar.
The beginning of the series was great but as it progresses it gets crazy.
