From the author of the critically acclaimed Time Box series comes the dramatic conclusion of a story that spans a century.
Two years after stealing portable time machines, the Lanes, a family from the present day, stop running and start living. They settle in the seaside town of Coronado, California, in 1963.
For Jordan, Laura, and Jeremy, the oldest children, the respite is a chance to nurture relationships, start families, and explore the country. It is an opportunity to put down roots.
For Ashley, the youngest, it is a chance to thrive. Now fourteen, she is ready to start high school, make friends, and make up for lost time. She finds popularity and more after a classmate nominates her for freshman homecoming princess.
Robert Devereaux could not care less. The deranged billionaire wants his time machines back and is willing to do anything to get them. He sends a hit man to the past, setting into motion a final confrontation between a hunter and his prey.
In CROWN CITY, the suspenseful finale of the Time Box saga, a defiant family finds romance, friendship, and danger as it navigates the final months of the Kennedy presidency.
Crown City by John A. Heldt is a rollercoaster of emotion as we lean to the ending of a great series.
Will the Lanes stop a madman and find a good time to live in?
The Lanes
The Lanes are a family that just keeps on growing in every book that we meet them in. Jordan and Jessie have a wonderful daughter, and they want to settle down someplace to raise their growing family. Laura has Randy and the baby she got from Teddy in Sea Spray. Jeremy has Sarah, and they are wanting to enjoy their lives together in a new time wherever the family decides to settle. Then there is Ashley, and she just wants to have the stability to enjoy life as a teenager and go to one school. The Lanes family has decided to make their home in 1963 for the time being since who knows what they will do once they take down Robert Deveraux. I loved spending time with this family and seeing them all get their happy endings as they’ve wanted since the first book.
The Story
The Lanes and Randy Taylor made a plan in 1941 in Ohau, Hawaii, to destroy Robert Deveraux’s company in the future and to change his past. Now they just have to implement the plans to ensure that everything will work out fine for these families. This installment gave me so many emotions while going through it, from 1963 with the Lanes and Randy to 2023 with Robert Deveraux and someone else at Janus Enterprises.
I wanted the story to have some happy endings. But also for the past to catch up with the present. Mr. Heldt has never, at least for me, not succeeded in tying all the loose ends in a story.
Five Stars
Crown City by John A. Heldt has left me feeling a bit off about how he tried to implement what happened in the past to the present. The only thing that changed was when Anthony Janson lost his fortune by one butterfly moment in the past. It took me out of the story when Anthony still remembered having wealth, and he doesn’t remember living a life without money. How could that happen? I also hoped that what happened with little Bobby Deveraux actually affected the older one in the present time. I guess those are the only things I would have to say that Mr. Heldt left me hanging about. Although, I will say that I loved the complete story and am looking forward to his next book, which starts a new series.
My rating for Crown City by John A. Heldt is five stars, and I recommend it to everyone who loves a good time travel historical romance book. Any book by Mr. Heldt that I have read hasn’t let me down yet!
