Dragon 1 by Mel Bridges tells the story of two sisters overcoming the odds stacked against them to stand up to and fight the Chinese.
Can the Trung Sisters start the rebellion?
Trung Trac
Trung Trac is the older of the two Trung sisters and is the one set to lead her people once her father decides it’s time to step down. Trac is great at learning how to lead their people and deciding on certain things to tell them, like a person in charge needs to do. She is a good character, and I like her flaws as they make her human. Trac also knows her limits and tries to keep people around her who she trusts to help her.
Trung Nhi
Trung Nhi is the baby of them and, unlike her sister, is more into learning how to fight to protect her people. Nhi excels not in the classroom, but in self-defense classes. She also likes to tell her people the whole truth instead of sugarcoating things. I like that about Nhi.
The Story
We watch the Trung sisters grow up to become the young leaders that they were when they led the rebellion. Of the two sisters, Trac is the one who ends up marrying and trying to start a family, while her sister wants to stay single so she doesn’t have to lose anyone. I have to say that I do feel sad for these two young women who had no choice but to live under the oppression of the Chinese rule because of where they lived. Ms. Bridges brings the history of these two sisters to the forefront in this book, and I am kind of sad about what will happen in the second book.
Four Stars
My rating for Dragon 1 by Mel Bridges is four stars. Ms. Bridges’ writing is good, and I do feel bad for the Trung sisters. I recommend this book because it is a great story. With that recommendation, I’d also say to come to this story with an open mind about how Ms. Bridges brings it to life.
