Wilhelmina Quigley grew up with her grandma, Oma, because her mom couldn’t take care of her, and her father was dead. This young girl has gone through a lot, and to make matters worse, for the past eleven years, this fourteen-year-old girl has been going down in magical classes. That is until Wilhelmina accidentally sets her remedial magic class on fire and now has to go live with her mom.

I have to say that I love Wilhelmina. She has been through the wringer up to this point, along with the betrayal of those closest to her. Wilhelmina still has a lot to learn, but right now, she has chosen the best path for herself, even if her Oma doesn’t think so.

Wilhelmina does a great job of navigating middle school and deciding who her true friends are. Middle School is a tricky place, and I’m happy to see that Wilhelmina is trying to stay true to herself—or at least as true to herself as she can be.

I am giving Wilhelmina Quigley: Magic School Dropout by Liese Sherwood-Fabre five stars. It is a fabulous book that I recommend to readers of all ages. Ms. Sherwood-Fabre definitely makes a compelling case for figuring out who you can trust besides family. Wilhelmina is a fabulous character as well, and I like how she matured during the time she spent away from her only home to being with her mom again.
