Lisa Becker General Q&A

Posted August 1, 2017 by karenbaron in About the Author / 0 Comments

Tell us about your newest release.

A light-hearted, second chance romance, Links explores what happens when nerdy girl Charlotte Windham reconnects with her unrequited schoolgirl crush, star athlete Garrett Stephens, 15 years after high school.

Did you have an unrequited crush in high school?

I’m not too ashamed to admit I had such a fierce crush on a boy, I willingly sat with him in the bathroom at parties while he puked up wine coolers, just so I could spend time with him. Thankfully, that soul-crushing time in my life in over, but I couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if I came upon that secret crush today as a confident, successful woman.

Can you tell us more about the main character(s)?

Charlotte Windham was a typical ugly duckling in high school — glasses and all. Highly intelligent and immensely talented, she’s become a breakout success with her best-selling novel, The Crossing Guard.  In school, she harbored an unrequited crush on Garrett Stephens, the teen heartthrob and star athlete who’s gone on to become a professional golfer suffering a possible career-ending injury. The book explores what happens when these two former classmates have a chance encounter in a Los Angeles restaurant, 15 years after high school. With the upper hand, can Charlotte forgive Garrett for his past ways, and for his more recent Don Juan lifestyle? Will she even want to? And, can Garrett change his ways for a second chance with Charlotte, who may just be the perfect fit for him?

Imagine Links would be turned into a movie, who would you cast for the main characters?

I would love to see someone with the emotional range and depth of Maggie Gyllenhaal to play Charlotte. I think she could make her come across as vulnerable, successful, intelligent and passionate. For Garrett, we would need someone who is classically handsome and oozes charm. Matt Bomer, who pulled that off perfectly on White Collar comes to mind.  If he’s not available, let’s just say, I would love to be at the casting call for that role.

You have also published other books, can you tell us more about them?

I’m most known for the Click trilogy comprised of Click: An Online Love Story, Double Click and Right Click.  The series follows a young woman’s search for love online in Los Angeles with the entire series unfolding in emails between our heroine, her friends and her hilarious dates. Fraught with BCC’s, FWD’s and inadvertent Reply to All’s, readers will cheer, laugh, cry and cringe following the email exploits of Renee and friends. And ultimately, they will root for Renee to “click” with the right man.

What do you have in the works?

I’ve just wrapped up a contemporary romance called Starfish, which examines the unlikely relationship between a regular girl and a touring guitarist in a band. When it comes to romance, you just can’t pass up the idea of falling in love with a rock star.

How can readers connect with you?

I love hearing from readers, especially when I’ve brought some humor, heart or happiness into their worlds with my writing. You can find me here:

Lee Goldberg ~ About the Author

Posted June 11, 2016 by karenbaron in About the Author / 0 Comments

Lee GoldbergI got in contact with Lee Goldberg with some questions about himself and writing the Fox and O’Hare series with Janet Evanovich. The Pursuit will be released on June 21st. I guarantee you will love this book, I know that I will as the character are hilarious.

Here are his answers to my questions:

  1. What is your favorite character that you have created?

Harvey Mapes, the hero of my novel WATCH ME DIE, a guy who learned everything he knows about being a PI from TV shows and novels… so he knows nothing.

  1. Have you created a character that is like you?

Nicolas Fox, of course ! 🙂

  1. Where was the best place that you have lived?

I’ve traveled a lot but I haven’t actually lived anywhere except California. I spent my youth in the San Francisco Bay Area and my adult life in Los Angeles. So I guess California must be the best place…

  1. What is your favorite pet?

I’ve had a lot of dogs in my life and I’ve loved them all. So I would have to say my present canine companion, Oreo, would have to be my favorite,

  1. If you weren’t writing what would you be doing?

Reading!

  1. Who is your favorite author?

I have so many, with Janet at the very top. The list would include Larry McMurtry, Elmore Leonard, Robert B. Parker, and my brother Tod.

  1. What would be your dream vacation?

Just read any Fox & O’Hare novel! and you’ll see I try to live my dream vacations and then write about them. You’ll notice Hawaii comes up a lot in our books…

  1. How did you two meet and decide to work together?

I don’t think either one of us remembers when we met … but it was probably twenty years ago. We finally began writing together after a long dinner.. We talked about the kinds of books we loved reading and that we wished someone would write… and I think it was Janet who said *we* ought to write them instead of waiting for someone else to do it.

  1. Who writes for O’Hare and who writes for Fox? Or is it a combination of you both for the two characters?

We both write every character.

  1. How do you come up with the cons? Collaboration?

That’s the hardest part. But the cons generally arise from character… and what we think would not only be fun and exciting, but would also bring out the best and worst in everybody.

I have to say that I really didn’t know who Lee Goldberg was other than he was part of Monk which of course I watched. So, my Mom challenged me to find out more about him. This is what I learned, he was also part of Diagnosis Murder (yes, I have watched that show, reruns of course), he published his first book in college under a pin name, he also wrote She Spies (way to go! I loved that show, I even have the 1st season on DVD), he also has a great sense of humor (just check out the bio on his website…my mom loved it). He is also extremely nice and personable, for a man about town and all.

Janet Evanovich ~ About the Author

Posted June 11, 2016 by karenbaron in About the Author / 0 Comments

Janet Evanovich 3I reached out to Janet Evanovich with some questions about herself and writing the Fox and O’Hare series with Lee Goldberg. The Pursuit will be released on June 21st. Can’t wait!!!

These are her answers to my questions:

  1. What is your favorite character that you have created?

Despite the fact that I love Kate O’Hare and Nick Fox, I’d have to say that my first love is Stephanie Plum.

  1. Have you created a character that is like you?

Stephanie Plum comes the closest.  The only differences are that she’s younger, thinner and funnier than I am.

  1. Where was the best place that you have lived?

Though I’ve lived in a number of locations over the years, my current home, in Florida, is probably my favorite.

  1. What is your favorite pet?

My family has had a quite a menagerie over the years.  However, at heart, I’m a dog person.  Just ask the most pampered creature on earth — my dog, Ollie.

  1. If you weren’t writing what would you be doing?

Baking cupcakes and doing the laundry.

  1. Who is your favorite author?

I have a number of favorite authors, including Barbara Park, Robert B. Parker, Robert Crais and, of course, Lee Goldberg.

  1. What would be your dream vacation?

A white beach with turquoise water.

  1. How did you two meet and decide to work together?

Lee and I met a long time ago and became friends.  For a number of years we talked about working together, but needed the right project.  I think that the Fox and O’Hare series is a really good blend of our writing styles.

  1. Who writes for O’Hare and who writes for Fox? Or is it a combination of you both for the two characters?

We each write both.

  1. How do you come up with the cons? Collaboration?

Lee and I bounce ideas off one another until we have a story.  It’s a real collaborative effort.

I love this series (ok, all of her series), I always pre-order my books so I get them right away. You can find her books at most book sellers. Janet also has the best newsletter, she give excerpts from books, contests and she has some great merchandise.

Tonya Kappes ~ About the Author

Posted June 11, 2016 by karenbaron in About the Author / 0 Comments

Tonya KappesWith a new year of my blog I wanted to add a little more. So, I decided to start an “About the Author” posts. So, I got a hold of my favorite authors and asked them some questions. Tonya Kappes writes fun stories, with mystery and little romance and lots of quirky characters. She has a couple of new books out now but check out her Spies & Spells, it was really great!

Below are her answers to my questions:

  1. What is your favorite character that you have created?

The truth is, I love each character while I’m writing them. That’s who my favorite happens to be. Then when I move on to the next novel, I swear those characters are my favorite.

  1. Have you created a character that is like you?

I think that each character I create has a little piece of me in each of them.

  1. Where was the best place that you have lived?

Nicholasville, Kentucky the small hometown where I am from. I think that’s why I write small towns because I have such fond memories.

  1. What is your favorite pet?

Oh…I have dogs and a cat. I love each of them in different ways.

  1. If you weren’t writing what would you be doing?

I’ve got two degrees from the University of Kentucky. I actually was a teacher and then a child therapist. Writing was a hobby that turned into a full time career.

  1. What is your favorite book series to write so far?

It’s the same that I answered about my characters. I adore the story I’m writing at the time and so on.

  1. Who is your favorite author?

I seriously cannot answer that with one answer. I have a lot of friends that I adore.

  1. What do you like to do when not writing?

I love spending time with my family and Jazzercising. My family is the most important to my heart and anytime I can spend with them, I do.

  1. What would be your dream vacation?

Anywhere with a beach!

  1. Where do you do your writing?

I had a beautiful office on the first floor that I never use so my husband recently converted it into a first floor laundry room. I love it. I wish I could sit in a nice office, but I don’t like being in a closed room, so I work in my kitchen during the winters where I have a big sliding glass door to gaze out and next to my pool during the summer. I’m a Pisces, so writing next to the pool is when I get my best work written.

Tonya Kappes writes a few different series, these are a few of them: Magical Cures Mysteries (one of my favorites), her new one Spies & Spells Mysteries, Ghostly Southern Mysteries (my Mom & Aunt really like this one), Laurel London Mysteries, and Olivia Davis Mysteries. I recommend that you will find at least one that you like.
